This is what I'm doing with the embroidered blocks. The first 2 rows are assembled. The lay out is from Vicki Purnell, a Tasmanian lady who loves to design quilts.

Macybaby 03-26-2018 01:18 PM

that is so pretty! I love the look of embroidered blocks mixed with piecing.

Anael. ....that is absolutely stunning!!!! Truly, that black makes it look so iridescent.....

Donna....read below before you pursue H7...

Kudo's to those who pieced this block without PP...OMGoodness, Anael! Thank you! However, this came out about 6 1/8 square even with my scant stitching...so....I'm going increase print size and re-do. Donna, I think if you magnify the PP to 105'ish, this should work out. If you want to wait for me to try it first, sit tight and I'll let you know. I thought about just sewing on a border but then I have about 5 reject blocks that I re-sewed because they were short and I may just use them on the backing...or pillow...or something... Anywhoo....here it is. I worked today and counseled late so I just had time to do this one....

Teen 03-26-2018 06:14 PM

Donna....I re-sewed H7 and it came out 6 1/2" On my printer, I enlarged Anael's PDF to 107% but yours may not come out the same so below is a measurement you can use to scale yours accurately.

in Unit G, the large square should measure 1 1/2"..when it does, you have accurate scale and you are off and running. When you enlarge, a couple of pieces may run off the page so beware you will likely have to make a second copy of those pieces... You are correct that the pattern is off 1/8" on each piece.

Anael 03-26-2018 09:22 PM

Oh so sorry the measurements aren't correct. I drew the block on an 8 " scale and printed it on a 6" scale. I have no idea what happened. Normally when I draw blocks in EQ the measurements are right. Maybe my printer is off? I have to admit, I didn't measure the paper pattern. Glad you could fix it Teen!! The block is beautiful!

Teen 03-26-2018 09:30 PM

Good Morning!! Not a problem, Anael! I'm so very grateful for PP and your time on it. Could be my printer that skewed the measurements. I'd much prefer to do PP twice than tackle the piecing. Believe me, you saved me time and anxiety. Lol!

laurafet 03-27-2018 01:48 AM

Ladies, your blocks look great! I had issues with that H7 also, so will most likely redo. I went to son's house yesterday and picked up a box of scraps and a plastic tub of fabric, but have to go through about 30 boxes and/or tubs to find my sbs book. I decided with all of the patterns online and what I have on my laptop, along with my sbs chart, I can surely work on a few of these. You are all such inspiration! Anael, the embroidery quilt is gorgeous!!

Macybaby 03-27-2018 04:38 AM

one of the ways I deal with a block like that - I make my HST oversized when sewing, then trim down. And wouldn't you know - this is one of about three blocks of the group that ended up oversized about about an 1/8". With all those outside points, it can't be successfully trimmed down.

So I plan on using it in one of the cut off spots - or on the back .. .

I played with layout today.

This is what I'm planning - sort of with the idea of a small quilt laying on top of a larger one.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pslsce7ldo.jpg

Wondering if it would look better with a narrow darker border on the inner quilt. The outer border will have a row of sashing, then I row of sky blue, and then this darker blue for the binding. So it would look like both quilts have the same binding.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps4n5vyo92.jpg

I'm really not sure about cutting 16 blocks in half on the diagonal. Been considering making 16 setting triangles, especially since I found that handful of batik scraps in with my strings. Most of it is fabrics that I used up before starting this project so using them would bring even more variety into the quilt. I can use the extra blocks on the back, or for a baby quilt. If I replace them, I'll have 26 extra blocks.

Anael 03-27-2018 04:58 AM

Nearly Insane cuts all the setting blocks in half on the diagonal. It can be done ;) Try one or two blocks and see if you like it. If not you won't have wasted a whole lot of blocks!

I like it better with the blue border.

I LOVE your bright blocks all together!!! And because you're not so into batiks I will PM you my address so once finished and quilted it can live with me..........:D :D :D :D

Anael 03-27-2018 05:01 AM

Thank you all for the compliments on my not yet finished quilt!

DonnaPea 03-27-2018 06:26 AM

Laurafet - looking forward to seeing your blocks and you joining in this fun. Teen - thanks for the counsel on the PP chart. I will be sure to play around with enlarging it before I start it again. You must be a very good counselor, because you've given me good advice! Macybaby - I too vote for the blue on your inner quilt, which is going to be stunning. I love looking at your blocks and marvel that we are making the same quilt - yours has such a different feel to it and it's fun to see it coming together. Anael - your quilt too is going to be just gorgeous. What a fun, interesting board this is to follow!

DonnaPea 03-27-2018 06:27 AM

And Teen, forgot to say - your H7 came out beautifully!

Teen 03-27-2018 07:44 AM

Yea, laurafet!!! That would be awesome to sew along with you. Be sure to share, too!

Macybaby....I vote the blue, too... This is going to an incredible quilt.

Donna...thanks!!

I'm off to start my day....some sewing....some organizing for trip. It's super windy outside with the Santa Ana's kicking up so staying inside today... Have a wonderful day!

Anael, your blocks are gorgeous. And, I love the overall design of the quilt too. It will be a masterpiece when it is done.

Thank you Judith. I will post it once finished.

4 more completed including H7 re-do....19 to go...

Macybaby 03-27-2018 05:45 PM

you are getting there Teen! I'm looking forward to seeing your blocks all together as I know it's going to look very different from mine. That is one thing I love about quilt patterns, you can get so much variation.

I've got the first corner sewn on. The hard part was figuring out what to cut off so the center would meet at the middle of the sashing on the ends. Turns out I'm only needing a small corner for the triangles, so I'll be using up scraps and not cutting up any other blocks. I'm not cutting enough off the others to use in the corners though.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps7u2pjvk8.jpg

After I get it together, I'm considering adding a row of blocks top and bottom, but I'll have to use a different fabric for the sashing as I'll be out of the light blue. At least I am really using up my batiks!

Teen 03-27-2018 06:08 PM

Wow....what a unique layout... So creative. I don't think I've ever seen this before. I'm getting excited to lay my blocks out. My reward when finished...

Anael 03-27-2018 09:26 PM

Wow Macebaby, this really is a unique quilt. Like Teen said, I've never seen this before either!

Teen, more gorgeous blocks. Just a few more and you're done!!

DonnaPea 03-28-2018 06:31 AM

Macybaby - I think you made a good choice on the blue binding. Can't wait to see the finished product. Teen - I love your A6! That came together beautifully.

Judith1005 03-28-2018 08:44 AM

Macybaby, I too like the addition of the blue. I think it will make that middle section really stand out. I don't know about cutting blocks in half though. I think it would look nice with a coordinating setting triangles. After all, you did put in a lot of work on all those beautiful blocks. I think they would just "get lost" in the cutting down.

I had my MRI tonight. Now it's a waiting game again, next Wednesday appointment to get the results.

The next row is on the Kaleidoscope quilt.

Judith1005 03-28-2018 01:07 PM

Oh Anael, it is coming out so pretty! I love all the colors your using.

Praying that it's a simple fix, Anael. Waiting games stink but at least this part is over. MRI's can be annoying and uncomfortable if in pain.

Your quilt is breathtaking. Machine embroidery is not on my bucket list but your quilt may change my mind.

only 2 today...I had to help DH with RV and make travel reservations for our road trip in a couple of weeks. Staying in some new to us RV parks so that will be exciting...

17 to Go!!

Judith1005 03-28-2018 06:08 PM

Teen, a great group of blocks you've finished off. I think that brings your count to 17 more to go. Your almost there. It sounds like you will have a wonderful trip Teen.

Macybaby 03-29-2018 04:12 AM

I've got my second corner on. The other two are assembled but not trimmed yet.

Judith1005 03-29-2018 04:22 AM

It's beautiful Macybaby. That blue is like the perfect choice.

DonnaPea 03-29-2018 06:19 AM

Teen - Black was the perfect color to use on K-10. Really enhances it. Macybaby - all I can say is Wow! I'll be so interested to see the other 2 corners on your quilt, which is just going to be eye-popping. I have a 3 day weekend coming up, looking forward to getting some blocks done and the baby quilt finished.

Teen 03-29-2018 07:54 AM

Thank you, ladies!

Macybaby....creative and wonderful!

Macybaby 03-29-2018 08:34 AM

Got all four corners sewn on - now on to the borders. Right now it's about 70 x 70, so plenty of room to go bigger.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pslig8smud.jpg

I have enough blocks to add one row top and bottom, but not sure if I have enough sashing for them.

I want to do a peiced border, but will need to get creative if I want to avoid buying any more fabric.

WOw you ladies are fast! .. and your blocks & finishing ideas are stunning! For so long I felt like I was the only one here working on it - tho I didn't start when this thread started. But Anael is always here as long as someone is working on it and posting it seems.. I've seen the notices about posts on here , but didn't have any idea until I read thru this morning the amount of activity going on - there's already a top coming together!!! I haven't touched my SBS since the beginning of the year - have the next couple blocks of scrappy fabrics picked out and the templates ready - just haven't gotten to it! The rest are still on on my design wall tho - I love watching the progress. I was 3 quilts deep over it this winter!! Got caught up in the Bonnie Hunter "On Ringo Lake" for the winter. Needed to design additional borders to make it a queen bed quilt, designed & pieced a back and it is now on my Tin Lizzie with one pass quilted. Also designed an additional border and am designing the pieced back for another Bonnie Hunter "Razzle Dazzle" I started a few years ago. Now that it has a home to go to it was time to finish it up for a nephews wedding present. Had to travel w/my Mom back to Florida for a family visit last week and hoping to get a plan in place to drive her home to Iowa end of April. Her hands are not working as well as she would like after breaking both her wrists last October and I'm thinking this may be her last year attempt to stay in her house by herself. We shall see. After our FLorida visit, my cousins have decided we need to plan a cousins reunion for 2019 - & we're going to include a celebration for my Mom's 90th birthday while we have family together... My youngest S28 was here for an impromptu visit between Hawaii and his next job in Mississippi right before I left & a couple days after we got back. Got home to a flooded studio which he helped my SO rip up the carpet (which can be salvaged, but the particle board underneath got wet enuf to swell and create little hills in my floor space.). So for right now I can't do any sewing for awhile and am going to have to do some major adjusting to keep my quilting pattern continuous after moving my 14 foot Tin Lizzie frame around to get to the carpet underneath. I'm retired and still can't get thru these projects as fast as you ladies. With my Mom here I am a bit limited to time in my studio during the week & typically spend the weekends w/the SO, but I do enjoy the process. We'll see if that changes when he retires this summer. He likes the idea of me getting to spend time in my studio and loves the creations that come out even if only 3-4 quilts finished a year - some finishing up old UFOs and some new. My Dear Jane took several years to finish also. But I was teaching f/t before I took advantage of DH's RR Retirement when I turned 60, (he died 7 yrs ago), then I sold my house & made a move to begin a new chapter in my life. Guess I should pay a bit more attention to what's going on here. Looks like you ladies will be done before I even get started again - but I will continue to plod along.

Aunt Jo - You sure have a lot going on in your life. Sad to see your floor in the state it is in, and hope that gets fixed soon. I would love to see some of your blocks. I too am plodding along; Macybaby & Teen are true Sylvia speedsters. Macybaby - what a quilt you are creating, just stunning. And it came together so quickly too! Here is my Bride's Bouquet and a vastly improved H-7. Thanks to y'all for the help. It takes a village to put Sylvia together. H-7 isn't perfect but I'm no longer embarrassed by it.

Anael 03-29-2018 11:51 AM

I will be here Auntjo, no matter what :)
I never tried a Bonnie Hunter pattern, too many of the same stuff. I get bored easily, that's why I love sampler quilts. So great to still have a Mom. Mine passed away 20 years ago and I still miss her.

Macebaby, all I can say is WOWWWWW. Thats one stunning quilt!

Teen, great blocks, I love the colours used in K10!

I was embroidering the last block for the Kaleidoscope quilt when my sweater got stuck in the screw of the hoop. It got out of balance, I was embroidering the second owl of that block and had to start all over again. Tomorrow I will try again! Didn't feel like doing that today......;)

Anael 03-29-2018 11:52 AM

Ohhhh those are such lovely bridal colours, what a beautiful bouquet!
Well done on H7 DonnaPea!! No need to be embarrassed :)

Auntjo.... My goodness, you've had yourself a bit of a time of it. So sorry to hear of the challenges and looking forward to seeing your SBS blocks again. Your energy was one of the reasons I Started this project, initially!!

Donna...your bridal, bouquet is beautiful and far out on the H7. By the way, you never have reason to be embarrassed with your work. You are your own worst critic.... Your blocks are wonderful and I LOVE your fabrics.... Keep,on Rollin, girlfriend!

Lookie lookie, Macybaby!!! Y-Seams!!! Woohoo! Thank you!

2 completed today though I have one additionally half done. 15 to go!!

Teen 03-29-2018 03:02 PM

Anael....sorry about your flub-up today. I almost burned my ironing board today by leaving my iron flat. I have never done that before. I was so focused on the friggin Y-seams..lol! " Tomorrow is another day!"

Anael 03-30-2018 06:37 PM

WOW..........gorgeous blocks Teen!!

Happy Easter to all !!

Macybaby 03-31-2018 05:53 AM

I' been working on my last border, and it's using up a lot more scraps. Got them all cut and now I'm getting ready to start sewing.

I'm doing a block that is mirrored, and with batiks I just cut them all the same and am flipping half over.
