[QUOTE=Anael;8024635]Awww thanks Teen!!
Just 2 more days before I have my appointment with the surgeon. I'm still on painkillers though it seems I'm getting used to the pain - again :( Or the numbness is getting worse......also possible. How are you Anael, hope your appointment today goes OK ! I am due to have my hip replacement on Friday -getting a bit anxious !!! Well done everyone - your blocks are amazing !! |
Anael....just checking on you and surgeon"s appt today.... Fingers crossed...
Dotty.....good luck on Friday. Just think...pretty soon you'll be pain-free cuz the pain after surgery eventually diminishes.....praying for you. Be sure to check in and let us know how you are doing.... You'll be so relieved when this done. |
My appointment is tomorrow, March 22nd......sorry for the confusion. Blame it on the painkillers :D
Dotty, thinking of you! The pain will be gone right after surgery, the only pain you will have is from the surgery itself and if you're like me pain in the groin but that will go away within the next few weeks. Please keep us posted on how you're doing! |
I just completed my 100th block!!! I started this journey on Feb 9th. I feel like a I need to go out and get drunk. Lol!!
I'll post pics later since I'm still sewing today.....woohoo! |
Congrats Teen!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 more completed....38 to go.. Pics are great to see boo boo's.....Need to fix H2
|
More great blocks Teen. I think you have a handle on this. Can't wait to see which blocks are left. Looks like this weeks were a mixture of less complicated and complicated. Smart, very smart. Hope you saved yourself a few more easy ones to get you through to the end.
|
Teen, what's wrong with H2? I can't find it but I don't have the book here so I don't know how it's supposed to be ;)
I saw the orthopedic surgeon this morning. More tests have to be done. An MRI will be done next Wednesday and April 4th the next appointment with the surgeon. So I still know nothing! The only thing he told me the problem is probably the lower back and not the hip. |
Hope the Dr.s get things figured out for you Anael, but it is best they fully understand what is going on before opening you up!
I also couldn't see what was wrong with H2 |
I have enough zippers as it is..........don't need more LOL. But I totally agree, I won't let them cut unless they know for sure what it is and it needs surgery!!
|
Anael...so glad they are going to do more testing to rule out everything possible. I'm sorry there is no quick answer and you are still hurting. I will share with you what I learned about hip problems....they eventually effect the lower back and spine.....and knees, if you can believe that. I have lower back problems because of it as does my sister.
H2 - the cross is not even in the middle. I failed to line up the upper piece with the lower piece. I fixed it already but your comments make me feel better knowing that all my unfixed boo boos will likely go unnoticed when quilt assembled. Phew! I've put on a pot of lasagna sauce to simmer for awhile...so, now I'm off to sew while DH is away....blasting my gospel and rock and roll....woohoo! |
I had very bad knee problems before my hip surgery and right after surgery the pain was gone and never came back. So..........yes I know those joints can effect each other.
Never think people will look so closely and find all the boo boos! They won't. Only you know - and we if you show them and we can find them :D :D :D :D |

Ahhhhhh more eye candy!!! Teen and DonnaPea, such beautiful blocks!!!
Teen, your points are really pointy :D :D |
I hope Dotty is ok, she has/had her surgery today. The day is almost over here but maybe where she is, it isn't.......fingers crossed all goes well!!
|
Thank you DonnaPea, unfortunately the Anaesthetist felt my cough wasn't safe to do the op and so cancelled it. Rebooked now for April 10th !I was upset this morning, but my health was paramount I know.
|
And Anael, sorry didn't scroll down far enough to see your message ! Hope you are ok.
Hugs x |
Awww so sorry Dotty!! Now you have to prepare yourself all over again :( Hugs!
|
I agree Anael. I am just dumbfounded at the speed in which you ladies are pumping these blocks out. And they all look perfect to me! Teen, a lot of our booboos disappear with the quilting, so don't fret too much. I had a hard time with that with the first few quilts I made. I gave up on perfection. I know- God only makes perfection. We just try hard. They are all beautiful-everyone's.

Omgoodness, Dotty....delays can reek havoc on us emotionally. So sorry! Sounds like you have a great team of doctors looking out for you tho. I have been thinking about you all day....get some rest and get well..
Donna....I had a goal to get these done by a certain date. Not sure if I will but still shooting for it. Your fabrics in this quilt are beautiful. I'd love to roll around in and, also, pilfer your stash...lol! Keep the energy going... Anael....thank you. Your encouragement has been wonderful during this project. Such a sweetie... laurafet....I battle this (perfectionism) with every block and quilt. I took my 106 blocks to LA today....my 2 quilts were ready...she wanted to see them by blocks. Her response was very encouraging and she asked me if I would be willing to share with her quilt club when done. That made me feel good. She's going to help with the quilting on this. 3 more completed today... 31 to go.. |
Teen, thanks!!
I know that feeling, it's never good enough, it has to be perfect, again and again. I'm slowly learning it doesn't have to be. But even settling for less than perfect I keep telling myself I could have done better...........oh dear, what are we doing to ourselves? I love your blocks, that bridal bouquet is gorgeous! Would you please share the quilting with us, once finished? I still have to quilt mine!! No idea how.....;) |
Looking good Teen!
I've gotten caught up in the String Box quilt-a-long, mostly because I love using up scraps and getting containers emptied out. But then the whole reason I did this sampler is to use up batiks. That's a goal for this year, see if I can use up scraps. I think the string quilt will be the 10th one using mostly scraps (not all done this year though). I've done a lot of "scrappy" quilts that I pulled fabric from my stash, but I'm not counting those. Good wishes to those facing surgery. I've never been put under for anything (not even tooth extraction) so I'd be so freaked out if I need surgery. |
No need to freak out Macebaby. If you don't wake up you will never know and if you do you will have a few bad days before it gets better :)
Here they talk you through it if you never had a certain procedure done. I never had an epidural and I was really scared. I told them and they were very kind and understanding. They told me every step of the way what they're going to do and why. I was happy I did it. |
Thank you, ladies...
My my scraps are small and my stash minimal since I haven't been quilting as long as some. Though, I've made over 90 quilts since I started my SIL taught me to use scraps of current quilt to make a quick donation quilt and I have done this for the most part. I started cutting up scraps to plan for scrap quilts I want to make and I use up some with applique. Macybaby...you are on a mission ....good for you... Anael...I'll be sure to share quilting when I get to that point. I told my surgeon that all implements needed to be covered before wheeling me in to OR. I did not want to see hacksaws and chainsaws. I had epidural but they also knocked me out....don't remember a thing except anesthesiologist saying..."Night night, Teen". I had a great experience overall but so glad it was over. Today...sewing more SBS but I've got 2 quilts just back from LA needing binding. So busy day when DH is away! |
LOL They knocked me out too but with the last surgery they had to wake me up during surgery because of BP problems. It dropped too much, the meds they gave me made my heart start racing so I had to wake up. They were sewing me up when I woke up. Weird feeling......
I use my scraps for machine appliqué but that doesn't take much fabric. So my scraps are finally multiplying.......hahahaha. Now I don't know how to get rid of them. I don't like making scrap quilts! |

Oh wow!! Pretty scary....I would freak if I woke up in OR...Yowza....
I don't mind making scrap quilts but only if I plan them and cut up sizes over time. For me, it takes too long to cut a scrap quilt in one sitting. I completed 5 today. Would have been 6 but I was on the last 2 Y-seam's of Kings Star and realized that I had 2 pieces turned around. This was after I already sewed 6 Y-seams...I was most upset. Pitched the block and set it aside. I'll do it later...lol! 26 to go!! |
Ladies, all this talk of surgeries- you must all have faith- in your doctors, in yourselves, in your friendships both in your everyday lives and those here on the board, and most of all, faith in the power of prayer. I find so much comfort in the caring spirit of the friends here, and just hearing your caring thoughts for each other each day gives me a strength and courage to get through things in life I never expected to be going through. And seeing everyone's progress is just an added plus! I feel the love!!!
|
Laurafet...you are precious and I pray your struggles lesson over time. I know you are spread thin with all you are doing for parents and not able to do the things you love for yourself. Obviously, God has you exactly where he wants you for now. And I agree....the people here are wonderful....SBS thread rocks on support system!
|
Laurefet, hugs! I hope better days will come soon, for you and everyone you love.
Teen, thanks!!!! You're so kind! Lofs of Y seams in your latest blocks, very well done! Isn't it annoying, thinking you almost finished a block only to find out you did a few pieces wrong and have to start over again? Arghhhhhhhhhh |

Yes...very annoying. I've been avoiding that block and when I finally give it a go, I mess it up. Totally operator error. I'll get to that block this week....
3 more today......23 to go.. |
Anael...did you, by chance, convert Odd fellows Chain (H7) to PP? I'm looking at that block and cringing right now. I'll piece it if not...no biggie but...fingers crossed that you did.
|
No I didn't but I can try. Give me a few hours :D It's 7 am here right now and I just woke up..haha!

Dotty - sorry to hear about the delay. Please remind us when the next date rolls around. Teen - more beautiful blocks! I love your Bride's Bouquet - that's the next one on my list to do. Macybaby - as I go through my stash with this project, I am setting narrow little scraps aside in a box to tackle the String Box after Sylvia - but who knows when that will be? Anael - your country sounds so advanced in health care. Have I mentioned that I am going on a northern Europe cruise in the fall and one of the stops is Amsterdam? Never been there, only a quick layover in the gorgeous airport there. Here's my weekend's progress, in addition to continuing to work on the baby quilt. Don't look too closely at H-7. I read earlier on this board of someone who added 1/8" to the cutting directions as the blocks were running a little short of 6.5", so I am trying that, with mixed results. I am a selective perfectionist, as I know I would drive myself crazy if I were a true perfectionist, and I may decide to redo that block.

Beautiful blocks! The H7 is ok but if you want to try again you could use the PDF and pp the thing ;)
A cruise!!!! How exciting!! To be honest, I've never been to the center of Amsterdam, I want to though and was going to but because of my hip/leg problems I can't walk far so no Amsterdam for me in the near future. |
Anael....OMGoodness, girl...you didn't have to do that. I thought you may have already done it for your own quilt. You are amazing....thank you so much!!! I will make that block today. So sweet of you...
Donna..cool blocks....that D4 block really looks awesome. Don't get me started on being perfect. Lol....I would re-do about 50% of my blocks over again if I had the energy. I fix what I can, a couple I re-sewed ...I want this thing to assemble easily but for the most part, I'm accepting my boo boo's...moving on... I can't wait to see a group picture of yours. I have not laid my blocks out yet so that will be a fun day. I only have my spreadsheet so far. Holding on to the anticipation. Lol...it's keeping me motivated. |
You're so very welcome Teen :)
|
What great timing! Thanks for the PP for Odd Fellows, Anael. I like the way the fabric goes together but struggled with it (obviously). Definitely going to start over with your PP.
|
And Teen, love your little baskets block. I am looking forward to that one, have special fabric set aside for it.
