Beautiful blocks, DonnaPea! The darker blocks will add so much depth to the finished quilt.

Good luck on your move too, Teen!

Macybaby 06-19-2018 05:24 AM

Those are very nice blocks Donna, I love earth tones!

My SBS is off the frame! I'm so glad to be done! No idea when I get to binding is as my "to be bound" list is gotten very long. Maybe something to plan on for the 4th of July, though with it being on Wednesday, there is no good way to stretch it into a long weekend.

I counted and I have 9 tops left to quilt. I've gotten down to the point that most of these I plan on keeping (for now) and most of them I have ideas of what I want to quilt and it's not an all over pattern so none of them will be fast. I'm real tempted to put the CMIYC quilt on, while I'm still in the swing of doing FMQ.

Judith1005 06-25-2018 04:42 AM

Hello Sylvia girls.

DonnaPea, any new blocks to share.

Teen and NZquilter, I can't wait for you ladies to get all moved. I can't wait for you to start sharing what you are working on again. As I know you are too. I have moved enough to know how inconvenient it is. But, I wasn't a sewer back then.

I am working on an old UFO, my Giant Scrappy Swoon. And, I am also working on a R/W/B quilt for my SIL who is deployed at the moment.

Cathy, what is CMIYC again? I wish I lived closer. I love the binding off step. I would lend a hand or two to you. :D

Hope all is going smoothly for our relocating friends and you soon reach the stage of looking around and realizing you're IN! Judith, are you doing your SIL's quilt as a Quilt of Valor? That is such a wonderful program. I made one for my SIL, who is an Army vet, a few years ago, and he really appreciated it. I'm sure yours will too. All the best to him, and I appreciate your family's sacrifice.

June has been such a busy month for me, but I had a nice peaceful Saturday morning in my sewing room and here's the results. And a big milestone - I passed the 100 block mark! 103, to be exact. So I am on the downward slope now.

Macybaby 06-25-2018 05:31 AM

Donna - very nice blocks - makes me miss having them to work on. I'm going way out the other direction with the quilt I started working on - it's a mandella style and will be paper pieced. I've been drawing up the layout for the "rays".

Judith, that stands for "Catch Me if you can". you can google to see the design.

I got two quilts bound yesterday, so I'm making progress on that front. I probably won't get the SBS for a while since it's one I'm going to hang on to for now.

Anael 06-25-2018 05:47 AM

Yesssssssssssssss DonnaPea, lovely blocks and you passed the 100 mark!! Congrats! You were on the downhill slope for quite some time now.....ever since you passed the halfway mark!

Macebaby, did I see those rays in another thread? Bright ones? Can't remember where though......

Only 2 photos from Saturday's ride. The weather was great but I didn't take many photos.

The first one is a mill, built in 1889.

The second one is a tiny lake, now you might think.......a tiny lake, so what?
This one dates back to the 15th century and was connected to the Northsea at that time. Now it's surrounded by land, miles away from the sea and no salt water anymore since a long time.

Took a break from my SIL's Chain Link quilt to build another block while a gal that is learning to quilt was here for the afternoon. Her personal mission is making quilts for the homeless but hasn't liked sewing generally. I started her on simple 10" block about 50x60 quilts, and she, her husband, and kids all decided they wanted one too. I had her try just 3" strips to create the 10" blocks this winter. They presented more of a challenge - she's learning the importance of accurate cutting, even seams, and measuring after every seam as they go together. Anyway, she still is enjoying the process & it's been over a year now, so maybe a new quilter in the making... Anyway while she was here today, I
completed G5 Mariners Compass...

Here's the latest pic of the Chain Link Quilt before I had all the border triangles set and got it on the Tin Lizzie. I'm about 3 runs into the quilting as of yesterday..

Anael 06-26-2018 08:35 PM

Oh my auntjo, that mariner's compass is breath taking! Perfect!!

The Chain Link is beautiful! Please share again after quilting.

DonnaPea 06-27-2018 05:11 AM

Auntjo - beautiful work, love your G5. I haven't done that one yet, but have the fabric for it already in mind. Isn't it fun to work with a new quilter? I have done so twice, really enjoyed it. And one summer I volunteered at a local 4-H quilt camp where middle school & high school girls learned to make a jelly roll race quilt. So much fun. I hope to do that again in retirement.

Donna Pea. Great blocks for your Sylvia. I am so partial to the blue ones. Donna, no, I'm not using a Quilt of Valor Design. I just finished hosting a Red/White/Blue 12.5 inch block swap. I am making a quilt out of those blocks plus blocks my mother and I added as well.

AuntJo, Your Mariner's Compass block is stunning. And, your Chain Link is just gorgeous also. Lots of progress being made.

Thanks Macybaby for the info. I now remember googling the "Catch Me If You Can" Quilt. I can't wait to see yours finished. You do Gorgeous work.

Great photos Anael. I just love hearing your tidbits of history. It really makes your part of the world come alive.

Anael 06-28-2018 07:03 AM

Thank you Judith. Not every photo has such a story as you know. I love this type of history too. Last year we biked in the northern part of our country. We saw a lake which turned out to date back to the ice age.......go figure!!!

Lovely blocks DonnaPea!! Purrrrrrrrrrrr purrrrrrrrrrrrr :D :D

DottyD 06-28-2018 09:06 AM

Hi ladies,
I haven't written here for ages, but have been following you all, and what FANTASTIC work you are all producing ! Such lovely colours, workmanship and all very inspiring. My life has been busy - having had a total hip replacement 9 weeks ago. My goodness what a wonderful result that has been, the pain has gone and I feel so much better. I wish I had realized how bad it had become and sought help a while ago ! Also our youngest DD had given us a beautiful grandson last Thursday. He weight 8lb 14ozs and is such a cutie. Not a lot of finished projects but a lot in the pipeline. I have made 4 table centres from Jenny Doan at Missouri Star Quilting Co. called Checkered Dresden Plate.
Here is a link :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbESQ4vMOiI
Keep up with the stunning work and best wishes to those of you moving homes.

Anael 06-28-2018 10:21 AM

Hi Dotty, so good to see you again!!!!
Yes, in hindsight we should have done it earlier but who knew!!
Congrats on your grandson. Where would you have found the time to finish projects? You have a new hip and a new grandson, you're busy enough :D

That's a great pattern and of course I see it all in brights hahaha. Thanks for the link!

Very pretty blocks, Auntjo. You have some nice fabrics! Here are 2 fairly simple ones I did yesterday. Slowly but surely...

Judith1005 06-29-2018 04:44 AM

Pretty blocks DonnaPea. I'm sure the simple ones are a nice break in between the more involved ones. Especially on this small scale.

Beautiful blocks, Donna & Auntjo.... Congrats, Donna, on passing the 100block mark. It is well within reach so keep on keeping on.... Auntjo....I miss working on these blocks so I can understand...your chain top is beautiful.

Dotty!!!! Waving!!!! So glad to hear you are doing well in recovery. I never realized the threshold of pain I suffered until it was no longer there. It's amazing we functioned at all. Happy for you...and congrats on new grandchild. Such a blessing. You'll be recovered enough to be crawling on floor with him when he's ready. See? Perfect timing.

Teen 06-30-2018 05:28 PM

Anael....gorgeous photography.....as always..

Your swoon is gorgeous, Judith. I love the colors you chose. You've inspired me.... I'm adding this to my bucket list.

Anael....he looks very determined. Lol... Great pic

Anael 07-01-2018 07:25 AM

Judith - love your swoon quilt - all those bright happy colors. You did a great job. Teen - welcome back - hope your move is going well. Dotty - nice to hear from you & congrats on the new baby. Nothing like them, is there? Anael - beautiful photography. You truly have an artist's eye.

Had a productive weekend with Sylvia. 28 to go, woo-hoo! I remember thinking when I started back in February that it would probably take about 6 months to do them, and I think that is about right. Should be all finished with them sometime in August. Not tired of them yet - each one is fresh & new for me.

Oh the hard ones this time DonnaPea. The last one reminds me of Christmas :) Well done!!
The beauty of doing a sampler quilt is there are no repeats :)

Teen 07-02-2018 11:56 AM

Awesome blocks, Donna. B6 turned out really cool. 28 to go!!, woohoo!!!

Well I'm back... What is this 6 month stuff - I've been pecking away at this project for a couple years now. But then again, I really do enjoy having a sampler going on in the background as I have different fabrics from some of the in between projects and sale stuff I manage to get hold of to add in to the variety. Can't finish this one too fast, or I'll just have to start another...

Here's a few more from today. I did do 3 more passes on the Chain Link quilt also.

G2 Oklahoma Dogwood

M2 Wild Goose Chase

and J5 Rolling Stone

Anael 07-03-2018 08:54 PM

Mine was at least two years in the making too auntjo!
Beautiful blocks! Love the colours of Rolling Stone :)

Teen 07-03-2018 10:43 PM

Love your blocks, auntjo. Oklahoma really turned out beautiful...that one is a bit challenging if I recall. SBS got me fixated on samplers right now...that may change but that is what is appealing to me currently. I love applique so I'm finding lots of sampler patterns that include pieced blocks and applique. It's not in my DNA to work on more than one quilt at a time. Lol!! Hence the reason I finished SBS in 4 mos. Wish I could but I'm too anxious to see the finished project. You certainly get a lot done quickly even with multiple quilt projects going on at the same time.

Anael 07-03-2018 11:12 PM

DNA can be manipulated :D :D
Start two Jen quilts at the same time ;) See how it works if at all!!

Dear Hannah is a lovely Sampler quilt with a LOT of applique blocks. It is written by Brenda Papadakis - who wrote the Dear Jane Book. I believe the book is out of print now - but maybe you might find one in the library or on Ebay ???

Anael 07-04-2018 03:07 AM

I never liked Dear Hannah. I have the DVD (which was given to me) but not the book.

I agree Anael, too much applique for me. But I have the book and when I met Brenda Papadakis, she signed it for me and my Dear Jane book !

Anael 07-04-2018 07:07 AM

Not only too much applique but I really dislike the designs! Having the books signed is great!
