I think mine is about $28, plus tip. Really, I don't think that's too much. After all, I pay the doctor $90 for a 15 minute visit, a plumber $75 for an hour (even if he's not here that long), etc. Even my pup's initial exam, which took less than half an hour, cost nearly $60 (without everythng else that went along with it!). So $28 to $30 for a haircut? Not bad!

as a "retired" cosmetologist I can tell you that the costs to maintain a salon are over the top these days...sadly NEW laws are keeping the Home based salon shut down in most states...that forces the prices to shoot up to match the economic times...which means you will pay just as much for a simply cut as you do a tank of gas soon!

SAD...and nuts...

as for the lady that does not color because of the chemicals in it...read your shampoo bottle..just as many chemicals in that!

Yup. Atleast if you are a woman even if your hair is straight forward. DH colors my hair and I let it grow long. He even goes to the beauty supply place and does it the same way as a beautician. Fortunately he likes doing it. It took me some time to get used to him messing in my hair but I could easily drop $75 plus tip for a cut and coloring before he did it. He does a great job and is fast. I get a cut just a couple of times a year to let it layered.

I used to do taxes. I've never done any stylist's taxes that made over about $20 thousand in one year. The sylist that had her own salon in a converted garage lost money. I told her she definitly needed to raise her prices.

I cut and color my own, but if I feel the need for some shaping, it costs an ice cream cone. My granddaughter cuts my hair when I ask, then I take my great granddaughter to the playground and for ice cream. Works for me. She is a SAHM on hiatus from a $50 salon. She was the instructor at the beauty school, so I'm getting the best of the best, plus time with my family. She likes the arrangement because she gets some alone time with the baby without the active toddler.

With tip, I pay $60.00. That's just for the cut and style, nothing else. Luckily, I only get my hair cut 4 times a year.

Why so much, because the owners of the building charges so much for rent. I will not go to Great Clips because I have had my hair butchered one to many times there nor am I good enough to cut it myself.

You can't put a price on peace of mind.

My hairdresser works out of her own home. She charges me $14 each time plus I give her a $3 tip. She does a great job.

I've even had to pay more than that, in Tulsa, OK. I dread to think how much they charge for coloring.

My hair needs trimmed really, really badly. I am going to call the Beauty college and see how much their charge. Good grief, how difficult can it be to cut straight across?

In South Florida it depends on which salon you go to ... but $35 is not outrageous here ... probably a mid-price ... you can get cheaper if you go to a chain salon (UpperCut) ... or if you go to a beauty school ... or more expensive if you go to a private, South Beach style salon.
