so, i 'heard' from the owner of the shop, sort of...she sent me an email saying...
"received your messages about our weekend sale, I will look at our records to see if your claim can be verified and get back to you"
so, how do you figure she's going to verify that i was given 1 yard of fabric instead of 2? or that i was charged for 3 fabrics but only purchased 2? hmmmmmmmmmmm i shall wait and see what if anything happens next. i will no longer ever shop in that store though, i was 3 wonderful shops within 30 miles from me who deserve my business...no matter what kind of sale she is offering. (especially since i thought at the time...she must have raised her prices before putting this on sale)the sale price brought it down to what the other shops around charge.

I know I am a little old fashioned, but when stores stopped using price tags and started using only bar codes I got really nervous. I keep post-it notes in my purse. When I am shopping, I write the price per yard and the amount of yardage I need on the post-it and stick it to the fabric. That way, when each piece comes to the cutting table, there is a double check. It has saved me lots of embarrassment. Sometimes customers move the fabric around so it is on the wrong table, sometimes it is input into the computer wrong. With the post-it, it reminds both me and the cutter to check twice and only cut once.

I do the same thing with groceries, and any other time I am purchasing things in a bunch. I also keep a notebook of who charges how much for each item. That way I can compare 'sales' or deals with regular prices. I very rarely get anything at regular price. This is really nice on fabrics and doll parts. I know what I spent and that helps me know what to charge.

"this car dealer didn't want any more bad press, i'm sure. what a headline that would make "car dealer sues woman over lemon car he sold her".

The dealer sued her for defamation and claimed the car wasn't a lemon. They finally settled, but it cost her more in atty fees than it would have cost to just trade the car in.

Tell her you're telling US the name of the store, and there are HUNDREDS of us on the board who will NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM HER unless she makes this right. You've been mistreated once too often. If she has a web address or Email address, give it to us, so we can POLITELY remind her that the customer is always right.[/quote]

I disagree - the customer is NOT always right. Sometimes the customer is just a jerk. But we need to be treated fairly, politely and not overcharged. I've seen store personnel treated like they are morons, and I for one, don't think they have to take that, but cheating a customer is not the answer.

When I had a quilt shop, I had some fabrics, mainly muslin come in at 20 yds, or some off the wall brands, but very few.

I'm with the others....keep calling until you talk to the manager/owner. If it's the clerk ripping off the manager/owner, then they'll never give the manager/owner your phone message. Would BBB look into something like this????

Quote: I would look up on the internet a newspaper for that town and write a letter to the editor(all papers have either comments or editorials) and tell of my experience to that town.(comes under freedom of the press). If nothing else ,at least it should embarress them.
I second this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote: Had a similar experience.
wanted the whole bolt, clerk said"this just came in this morning nothing cut off this bolt so it is the full 20 yds"
"So I won't bother taking it all off the bolt and rewrapping."
no problem paid for the 20yds and left
well get home and start unrolling and cutting only to find that there are only 12 yds on the bolt!
Owners response" how do we know you didn't cut some off?"
lost my business!
some of the LQS should close!
I bought a bolt couple years ago. Even though it still looked to be a new bolt, I had them measure it all out anyway. It was short 2 yards. That store that ripped you off, I would fire a letter off to the Better Business Bureau and if the store is part of a franchise, their head office. Looks to me that $hop owner has quite a little "game" going.
