We have a calendar on our refrigerator and one in my sewing room. The refrigerator calendar is very helpful in reminding us when we have to renew our pbs, library, and newspaper payments as well as for doctor and other appts.

We had a central large calendar in the kitchen when all my kids were home. It really got filled up but we didn't miss things. Now that it's just my husband and myself we have a calendar but don't write appointments on it as much as I use the calendar on my phone. I like to do that because I always have my phone with me.

I have a calendar my daughter makes for me every year for Christmas with family pictures, especially the grandkids, on it for each month. And I save them every year. It's fun to see how the family grows/changes through the years. That is the only calendar I have hanging up in my house. I LOVE it and look forward to getting one every year.

I have calenders all over the house. The ones in the kitchen are gifted by grand children of their kids. Each month a different family scene. I love them, even the ones from Sweden where they don't start the week on Sunday but monday which is confusing. It keeps me up with my growing family. Some show them with quilts I have made.

Our main calendar is in our office above my desk with all appts, etc on it. I also have a nice one, Lang usually, in a nice frame in the dining room/kitchen and one in my sewing room. I keep old calendars for several years and often refer back tothem for past doctor appts, it is a good reference tool.

I keep a calendar hanging on the side of the refrigerator. We color code events (I mark all my events with an orange pencil) so we know who is going where and when. We stopped missing events and scheduling conflicts by doing this. It has really large squares with plenty of room to write.
I keep a similar one hanging on the side of my file cabinet at work.
I'm trying to start using my iPhone to mark doctor appointments, etc. but often forget to check that. The main one is the one on the fridge.

Wall calendar in the home office. Reasonable space to jot notes and schedules. But if I really want to know what day it is... I check the newspaper. Computer only gives me the date. When I was working I always new the Julien date (Jan 1 is 1, December 31 is 365 or 366 in leap year) since I'm retired I have to check.
