My suggestions...

Exercise: not just a leisurely walk but vigorous exercise. Works for helping you to sleep better b/c your body is tired. Works best if you exercise in the morning.

Avoid all caffeine: If you consume caffeine, it can affect your body for up to 24 hours or longer after you take it. It affects all people differently

Eating: eat enough fruits and vegetables and protein. try to eat small meals every three hours. This keeps your blood sugar stable. Minimize or avoid flour, sugar, and processed foods

Alcohol: avoid alcohol. drinking may make you sleepy but you won't be able to hit a deep sleep.

I am not a big fan of how much we medicate ourselves in the US. Some medications are necessary but if we ate correctly and exercised, many medications and medical interventions would be unnecessary.

I have been up since 1:30am...its going to be a long day...the rain woke me up and I could not fall back to sleep. So...I surfed the QB Now to stay awake all day at work.

I recently discovered that many people are using Melatonin for sleep. I'm not usually one to recommend a pill to anybody else but this sure works & has no side affects for me. It's over the counter.

Many people have trouble sleeping. The thing is to find out why. First we worry why and the we worry that we don`t sleep!
Seams to me we need to go with the flow more. I don`t believe in meds to sleep, you get use to them and have to take more and more. Think about what makes you feel good, don`t worry about things you can`t change. If I still don`t fall asleep I listen to my Walkman, just turn it on to any station to listen to what relaxes you. I get interested in a program and fall asleep before it`s over.

I had that problem for about 6 months straight. I finally mentioned it to my PCP, and she suggested one of 2 meds. Now I can actually sleep at nite. THank God. When I don't sleep, I make bunches of quilting mistakes. ;-)

And what is the problem...use this time doing what you enjoy till you become sleepy. If you work outside the home then this is a problem. Make lemon aid out of sour lemons.
