Our lawn looks good for late July. We have had enough rain and it helps to live in a wooded area, except the garden, where we water if needed. Lawn care is so expensive and if it dies, it costs a lot to replace! I feel very bad for all you quilting friends in the south and west.

Brown grass. Only thing growing is the buckhorn. We need rain and cooler temps.

I live in the country and we water our yard and gardens. Looks kind of funny to have a partially green yard in a few miles of brown pastures. We have well water so no restrictions. We;ve been watering at night so it stays on teh ground longer than during our triple digit central Texas non rain weather.

I am thankful for sprinkler systems in front and back...grass and shrubs are a-okay. The garden is another story...too hot for veggies blooms to set and when they do very small veggies. I am just letting them happen for the birds to eat.

We are in what is being categorized as "severe drought." The cattlemen are selling their stock due to lack of water and feed. Here in town we are on voluntary water rationing: odd/even (depending on your address)... after 9pm and before 7am...

I'm managing to keep the trees and shrubs (most of them) alive, but the grass is getting crispy, except around the trees and shrubs.

It's pretty desperate here...

Lawn...what is this thing??:). We live on the crest of a hill so there are only a few flat bits on our property. We do have a little path of lawn near the front gate, but the rest is big garden beds with shrubs, fruit trees and sand tracks between (I am planning on deep sawdust paths this year, to keep the sand/dust down). We have been in drought, what seems like forever. Last summer (it is winter here now), we lost a few plants/trees, some natives, which was pretty disheartening. We hand water and I bucket water on to the garden using rinse water from the washing machine. Hard work, but I can't bear to see the garden die. We have several bird baths and some smaller containers on the ground for the lizards and anything small that needs a drink. It's been raining for a few days, quite heavily, so we pray it will continue.

We have city water and do not water because of the high rates. We have a friend who waters using a sprinkler system and the bill was over $1000.00. for 3 months last summer. - I am a retired letter carrier and a few years back the water bills were sent on a post card with the amt owed next to the address. $600.-$900.00 was not uncommon in the upscale neighborhoods. But other neighborhoods adveraged about $250 in the summer, and this has been severals years. I know my rates have gone up so those bills probably have too. I do water my flower beds. The more you water the grass the more it needs mowed. This year the mower has not been needed much.
