Default Donating quilts

The guild I belong to takes offerings from us members for our designated charity...but as so many of you are talking about charity Quilts, I'm wondering if you are doing it personally or thru your guild. If you are doing personally, do you list on your income tax as charitable donation or some other deductible item? Or are you just making and donating from your heart? I don't do charity quilts routinely, and only donate thru the guild...just wondering

I make and donate through several groups, I don't keep track of any expenses or time. I just want to give someone a "hug" when they need it.

If you do take a tax deduction it can only be for the materials. You cannot deduction your labor and you need to save receipts for all materials used as proof of purchase.

My quilts strictly from my heart. I buy the fabrics, batting and do all the making myself. My Daughter does too.

Deductions are more of a pain than I am willing to deal with.

No deductions - straight from the heart.

i don't keep track of costs for tax deductions.
when i deduct donations they no longer feel like donations [to me.]

the quilts i made for the local dialysis center are from me as an individual.
the others i donate usually go to a group (e.g. Project Linus) or through my guild.
sometimes friends and i will pool quilts to donate to one of our individual causes, such as a nursing home who cared for a parent; a local group home for kids, etc.

I just give to local nursing home--no tax deduction. It makes me feel good, and I hope someday someone will donate to me when I'm there.

It would be too much trouble to keep track of this type of giving if you were looking for a tax write-off and would be hard to prove, even with receipts, if audited. I do a lot of sewing and quilting for a group that has a craft event for a local charitable outreach. I enjoy doing it, I use stuff I have, buy some finishing items, use things people give me. I feel that I am giving of my treasure, time and talent to help others who need help.
