When I left school (many many years ago!) I also wanted to be a librarian, but my father decided this was not the job for me and in those days your father's word was law! I ended up working in a bank which I never found was the right place for me. I still love going to the library or into bookshops and often wonder what would have happened if I had followed my dream, so I trully hope your daughter can follow hers.

I understand the feeling well. If she tried her best, she can't ask for more. Remind her the only way she could have failed is if she didn't try at all. Not everyone tests the same. Some people excell on "practical exams" where they are asked to physically do something and some people excell at the pen and paper thing. My household is a mixture of both. It is a constant struggle to have one child compare their own result against another. Both are very bright but one just doesn't test on paper as well as the other.

I don't think that we, in America, truly understand the importance of the exam results for you as things are different here. I am sure she is disappointed in the results and in herself a little bit. I hope that she finds some way to move on and make a bright and beautiful future for herself. Tell her that we are cheering for her in America!

Thank you all for taking time to pass on your kind thoughts and wishes. My granddaughter is called Mandy and I have just shown them to her....brought a tear to her eye but a wee smile at the end to think that you are all cheering for her in America! What a lovely lot of people you are.
