I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my front load washer, a Whirlpool Duet. Our clothes are clean and done in little water, only as much as is needed. I have never had any smells....I leave the door open all the time. I am mystified as to why one would not like their's. I find much less lint (your clothes being worn out) in the dryer with the front loader because the washing action is so much gentler.

What I hate is my new dishwasher, a Bosch....almost $900. It stinks!! In spite of taking almost 3 hours (2 3/4 hours), there is dirty water left in the center cup, which really stinks. My daughter has the same model and her's stinks, too. Google produced others with the same problem. It's disgusting.....stay away.

I wish you gals would tell us the brands you like/don't like so we can beware of them.

My new Bosch dishwasher is quiet as a mouse....really. The company put a light shining red on the floor so the user can see if the machine is operating....otherwise it's hard to tell. However the thing stinks terribly between loads. My daughter has the same machine and her's stinks too.

my Bosch dishwasher is great. We were using the wrong detergent so the repairman gave us some samples and dishes are clean and it is whisper quiet

the house we moved into had whirlpool duets. Relatively new. Awful. Got rid of them. Took forever to complete a wash cycle. Had them serviced but were advised at that point repairs not worth it. Still very pleased with new GE top loader with agitator. It is HE but I can override the water level to fill it all the way up.

We use Cascade Complete, as the installer recommended. What did your repairman suggest? Do you have the model with the third drawer? The machine leaves a cup or two of stinky water in the bottom, no matter what detergent one uses.

You disliked the Duet because of the time it took to wash?????? My regular load is 42 minutes, not excessive to me. Anyone here call that excessive??? No "service" can change that.

Me too. got the most basic washer I could find. works like a champ! It doesn't match my fancy Neptune Dryer but I don't care. Luckily it still works.

we have the one with three racks. I think it is cascade complete. Mr Stitchnripper is in charge of
running it. We don't have any water left in the bottom. It doesn't smell and it is quiet.

The duet I had took over an hour for a regular wash cycle. It had other problems. Maybe former owner induced. The dryer needed some kind of assembly because it screeched. It wasn't a belt but some "assembly" can't remember. The washer started leaking and we were told it was a pump which our repairman said was not that uncommon and that contributed to the stench. I left it open all the time but maybe former owners didn't.

I'm glad you enjoy your washer and dryer and sorry you don't love your dishwasher. It all boils down to personal preference

I thought about getting a digital washer and dryer. My husband and I checked on them. When talking to the salesman he said their life span was good for about 6 years. I told him we were not interested and he asked why? I said the washer and dryer I have is 25 yrs old and I have only replaced a belt twice and timer once. So, I guess I will just hold onto mine. Needless to say, he walked away. Lol

It's an environmental thing. A town near where I live in NJ has such high water bills that most of the residents want the high efficiency, low water use washing machines. but that town has always had very high water costs; the HE washers work for them.

Usually there are hoses connected to the washing machine for hot and cold water. If that is the case for your machine, you can turn off the cold water when you want a hot wash. Unless, of course, that means moving the entire washer to get at the hoses.

Our machine is as closed to "like they used to" as you can get these days. A mechanical, regular top loading, with agitator, speed queen. All metal tub and most importantly-no digital. And it fills all the way up with water.

eta: we have a septic system. I've never heard of needing to use low water machines with it and I can't even imagine it since the low water machines have only been out for a few years, but septic systems have been around for decades. We limit the amount of bleach we use and don't use a garbage disposal at all. We never put medicine down the drain or in the toilet.
