I started getting grey hairs at age 14, as did my mother and grandmother before me.
My hairdresser advised using temp color a shade or 2 lighter than my natural color. I did and got lots of compliments on my "Highlights".
I stoped coloring my hair when I became so grey that my roots were constantly showing. My hair started thinning, also a family trait amongst our women. Putting the chemicals on my scalp concerned me so I stopped coloring and perming.
It always looked so goofy that I accepted the fact that I couldn't do a better job than God and let nature take it's course. That was about 3 years ago. I turned 51 last November.
Sometimes I really have to fight the urge to color again..oh where does the youth go?

Gee just read through this......Yep I dye mine cause I like it better.....I add a very light blond mostly because it needs an even color. i do it about three times a year and no one notices. i had dark hair with lots of red in it so some was gray, some white, some blond and some dark. This just blends it better...makes me happy...I like straight hair on me  its now lighter than the picture. I'm 64

I looked at a picture of myself washing my baby grandson in the kitchen sink, and realized that I looked like a plump frump with dyed brown hair. Right then and there I decided to stop dying my hair. I'm still plump, and probably look like a frump, but my white hair gets a lot of compliments.
And the light hair softens the wrinkles.

I am in my early 40's and I am salt and pepper grey and damn proud of it!! Honestly do you realize the hell I went through to get it?

All of my buddies laugh and call me an "old man" but I still get offers from 20 somethings to meet them for drinks and what not. But then I think they like me for the Hot Rods and fast cars I have and my "I am here just for the fun of it " care free attitude.

But I think women with grey in their hair are really sexy!

You need to be happy in your own skin! If dyeing floats your boat, do it. If you like the gray embrace it.

I to started getting gray hair in my mid 20's and my general hair color was such a mousy brown color so I always dyed my hair. I quit dyeing my hair 3 years ago after my 6 year old granddaughter told me I wasn't a grandma because my hair wasn't gray. I now am getting a beautiful color of white hair coming in on the side of my head and of course my granddaughter's remark, hey grandma your getting real old your hair is getting white!

does a persons hair always come in white after chemo? I've noticed that several had said something similar.

After chemo or a traumatic accident, hair can either revert to the regressive gene or lose color altogether (turn white). My son was 11 when he was hit by a car, his hair was brown and straight, it came back black and wiry, curly, with red highlights. My family hair was stick straight, his father's was the curly. We were surprised!

I hope I never have to find out first-hand. After all the angst yesterday and the day before, I colored my hair. Again.
