Because they didn't name it properly to start with. The problem is CLIMATE CHANGE, which is happening all over the world with weird weather.

In a nutshell, I think it means the artic ice cap and polar ice caps and ice bergs are all melting at an alarming rate and as it does the preciptants head our way as rain, snow, sleet, ice, cold-cold air etc. They are melting because of Global Warming! And its up to us (the USA) to stop it because 99% of the fault lies with our country! Hence an inconvenient truth.
Parts of this may or may not be true, it is just my feeble understanding of why we are so cold!!!

Boy I sure wish I were you people. I',m in Florida and we don't get any snow. Just hurricanes and none of them for the past 5 years. So I just have to go to work and quilt at night.

Montgomery Il, 40 miles west of Chicago. Storm hit last night into this a.m. 20.6 inches of snow, 5 ft drifts, doors snowed shut etc. No school today & tomorrow, 15 below predicted then, Cars in ditches & cops were in ditches too along with ambulances, fire trucks, & snow plows. Plows called off at 10 last night due to the blowing snow & poor visability. 59 mph winds. The worst of it was that my dogs wouldn't go out & do their business. Can't blame them but i waited up most of the night in case i could get them out...............
