I have never had one till this year. It uses a plastic water bottle turned upside down. I will see if I can find the name it doesn't leak.

[quote=rushdoggie]Get a HumZinger flying saucer type. Easy to clean, and they don't leak. My absolute favorite.

Rushdoggie, where did you get yours? Do Hummers really find the saucer types?

I saw them at Lowes, I bought mine at the Backyard Bird shop. Yep, the hummers found it right away and seem to have no issues using it.

This is my favorite style too. Mine warped a bit and so I fixed it with yellow duck tape. Works great!

Ace Hardware in my area (Tucson AZ) carries them as well as Wild Birds Unlimited (don't know how widespread this store is if at all). If you can't find them locally, just do a Google search for "Perky Pet Hummingbird feeders" and you'll get several hits for vendors. There are many styles and sizes of the feeders. The pic I posted was from www.birdfeeders.com. They seem to have a large variety of the Perky Pet series, so you can see what all is offered. The pic I posted is the "pinchwaist" glass feeder on sale for $13.99 which I think is a reasonable price given how many years their feeders last (my feeders are out 24/7 365 days a year in the AZ sun). However, I can't vouch for birdfeeders.com as I have never ordered from them (I was simply looking for a picture of the feeder I use to post).
Enjoy - watching these little gems is one of life's simple joys!

Spray the pole with Pam cooking spray and you will have no ants.

The brand is Homestead and I got it at Fleet Farm. The top is glass, the bottom is two pieces of plastic that screw onto the top. It's easy to clean too. I fill it upside down, carry it outside, then turn it rightside up to hang; never spills!

Mine has a hummingbird and flower etched into the glass on one side. I don't think it was any more expensive than all the other ones I had tried, and I had tried many. Someone told me that hummingbirds appreciate having something to rest their feet on while they drink, and this feeder has that too.

The flowers are a little different on mine, and I'm not sure it's the same size, but here's a link to this style feeder on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Glass-Hummingb...dp/B0024E4NPS/

I use a round toothpick to make sure the flowers open easily for the hummers, so they haven't had any trouble feeding out of it. I also use toothpicks when cleaning with bleach to make sure the flower openings get totally cleaned.
This is the same kind I've bought for years and no problem with them leaking.

one year I had switched from a hanging bottle type to a saucer type. THe female hummers learned right away to feed from it, took the males about a month tho figure it out. Now I have to go look for mine and get it out there. I have hummers that hover in front to the windows and peer in at me if I don't get the feeder out in time.

I bought mine at our local feed store for $13.00 and it doesn't leak. The flowers are flat so the ants won't get in, according to the article I read.
Last year I had two that had big flowers for the hummers and the ants were terrible.
