I feed the birds, bunnies and squirrels out back and they've been filling their guts profusely of late. Even caught one of the squirrels trying to bury her bread crumbs. The hummingbirds are already here too and have been here for a couple of weeks. Usually they don't show up till later in September so it seems we'll be seeing winter sooner than normal if you go by what the critters are doing. Our summer was not very hot at all and I was concerned my tomatoes would never ripen but they are now.

Also we're having a heck of a wet Fall this year too to the point of flooding. Last year we were in a drought with water restrictions. Sure hope we get some snow with the low temps or we can expect to lose more of our plants and roses like last year. I'm geared up to doing lots of sewing and quilting. I make my quilt tops during the summer and between garden chores and then quilt them during the cold months. Have 3 hanging reading to go now and 2 on the cutting table in various stages.

We just left NW PA and headed home to FL, thank goodness! Not to complain, but the summer in NW PA was cool and very wet. Better than the humidity and oven-like heat that slams us in the summer in central FL. At any rate, one local said she'd already seen a wooly caterpillar and had been told that snow would fly before September 15!!! That's way too early! I hope it's not true. We saw leaves turning in NW PA, but less in Southern PA. A flock of birds were flying South when we were in NC yesterday. Seems early. Maybe there will be a gorgeous fall to make up for last winter and the cool summer. We are already feeling the heat as we travel south. I am not bragging...it's going to take some getting used to again.

I live on a ridge in Maine and I can see beginning color on the trees off in the distance. I am not ready to begin shoveling again.

Where in central PA do you live? A year ago we moved away from central PA. We lived in Richfield and Selinsgrove, so I know where the Juniata River is.

I think last winter was so horrible because we have had several years of 'not so bad' winters. I don't mind the bad snows since I'm retired and don't have to go out in it but, I really dislike the below zero temps and terrible winds...that combination is what is dangerous for us.

our birds are all 'flocking up' here in lower Michigan. and listening to all the predictions, sure is making me want to stock up. hope I do it, and quit putting it off. a lady I used to work for , would buy her TP and paper towels, and dog food for the whole winter wayyyyy early.

I'm in the minority--I love short, dark days and cold weather. I am SO ready not to sweat all the time.

I am worried about our weather out here for winter, we have had hardly any rain/snow in the past few years, they are saying the same for this winter, every thing is so dry, so with the Santa Anas coming and the dry brush, I am afraid of fire.

We live in Port Royal and are in full swing of the Juniata County Fair. I entered four items and had to bring two home owing to no appropriate category. Will go tomorrow and see if I won anything. We pass through Richfield enroute to Verna's and Hoover's. I am sure you are familiar with both of these quilt shops.

I have been working in the yard, dead heading, pulling weeds, etc., and got stung twice at my right eye and temple. My right eye surround is red and I look I've been in a fight. Guess I'll be donning the sunglasses when I leave the house. The bugs have been fierce this summer and they love me. Regardless, I have noted that the robins are gone. Surely, this says something about winter.
