Here is a tip that might help. It worked for my friend. She was quitting and bought the worse tasting, cheapest generic cigarettes she could find at the lowest nicotine level. She hated menthol and so she bought those. Along with the patch and meds, it worked for her. It only takes a couple of weeks to get the nicotine out of your system but much longer to get the brain to get over it.

I was a smoker for over 40 years and stopped 2 years ago...it was the best thing i ever did!
Dont ask me why I stopped because I couldnt answer you (I always said I enjoyed it too much to stop) but one night i decided to quit....I had lost my younger sister to cancer and I swear it was her sitting on my shoulder telling me not to light that cig! lol!
I did it with the Niquitin patches and realised that the THOUGHT of stopping was worse than actually DOING it! (and I was quite a heavy smoker)
Withing a few months I'd saved enough for a new sewing machine....and these days I rarely even think about cigs!
I wish you luck ....you can do it!

Good for you. As a former smoker, I am pulling for you. What a great gift you are giving yourself & your family!!
My Mom was a heavy smoker and died from lung cancer. When she found out she had the tumor she quit cold turkey. I always said if I had known that it would have been that easy for her to quit I would have advocated her getting the patches.
All of us on this board will be here for plenty of encouragement.

Thanks again everyone for the support. I appreciate it more than you will ever know.
Well ~ day 1 is nearing an end. Don't know that I made much progress today. Started out good the in AM, but around 1:00pm the neighbor came knocking at the door in a panic. Seams as though her 24 year old son died today of internal suffication. ME (medical examiner) will not finish autopsy till Monday or Tuesday and it could be up to 3+ months before they have a final determination. One thing they did mention ~ did you know that you could go swimming one day, and drown the next from the water left in your lungs? They are also looking into the possibility of some type of infection, since he has had a VERY bad caugh since returning from Iraq over a year ago. So ~~~ to say the least, my attempts to quit today failed, but I will stay on the med (Chantix) and continue to work towards my goal.
When you pray for my success, please say a prayer for my neighbor, Lisa. She will need all the good thougts and prayer she can get in the next few days. I just cannot fathom the thought of losing a child.

I did not know that you could 'drown', later. What an awful thing! Rebecca, in my eyes, you did not fail at all. Your determination is still there, even with all that is hitting you. You may need ten thousand angels, but some of them are right here, behind you. I will remember your friend, Lisa. I am so sorry about this. I will be back on post, tomorrow, so take care till then. hugs. C

silly me, it is, tomorrow. Ok, I live in a funny world, lol.
How's your day going? What are you currently working on, in your quilting stuff?
Do you do any hand quilting or embroidery, etc.? I think everyone has to try different things, to see what works for them. Music is very soothing for me, no matter what I am doing.
I kind of try to focus on a project or task, with one part of my mind, and another part, is always dancing around, trying to get my attention, and the music calms that, like a cat, and it goes to sleep, so I can focus better. Probably sounds weird, but then again, it may sound familiar to some.
It's day two, and we are here if you need us, rebecca. ttfn.
