Secondly, my dad's family is polish - (I call myself a polican) - and people make polish jokes all the time. They make me laugh - apparently we've earned that reputation somehow!!! I know who I am, where I come from and am comfortable enough with myself and background to laugh at a simple joke. Besides, I don't remember one specific ethnicity being mentioned or any one ethnicity being directly insulted, just that upon seing the patch they left........
i agree. my own background is polish, russian, canadien and spanish. all here legally. all learned english as their second language. my first language until i was 4.5 was not english, until i went to school. my own family needed help when they got here, but soon helped themselves. all became citizens, except for my mother, who lost the respect of all her family for it. i've heard jokes about those kinds of people all my life and they are funny. like you, i know who i am and where i belong.

    Well said you! :-D :-D :-D

And I thought the joke was funny. Things can be funny even though there is a serious issue involved - actually, ESPECIALLY if there's a serious issue involved. Humour is one of humankind's ways of dealing with the crappy things in this world. And it's plain to see that this joke has sparked a discussion on said serious issue and made some of us think about it, perhaps reconsider our opinions, etc. Jokes are not ONLY funny. Humour helps us to make sense of this sometimes confusing world. JMO. :-D

This joke has sure spawned quite a bit of discussion!

I didn't find it offensive. It didn't knock any ethnic groups, it just knocked people who illegally enter the country - and then use services we pay for via taxes, allow businesses to undercut American jobs and salaries, etc.

Just a thought: If illegal aliens do jam the emergency rooms, then maybe Immigration should be monitoring that. Require proof of citizenship or a valid visa or passport, and have security on hand to detain those who can't provide it. I'm not suggesting that treatment be refused; that would be inhumane. But it sure would be an easy way to catch some illegals.

the problem is we still live in a country where your judge by the color of your skin ,i was born here and so where my parents, the things they went through just to make a honest living and we as kid,s growing up and going to school where we were yell at to go back to mexico where we came from they would yell, when i see jokes like that i find it very offenive and racial, some people still make remarks because they think im from mexico ,and yes the system is better on their side when it come to benifits but in really it the system that works on there favor, when i got hurt at work and had surgery,s it took me 2 years of suffering and in bad pain before i was able to get help from worker com ,and when i started going to phyical thorey the people there were non speeking english white, black, yellow and brown people from around the world getting medical help and money, but when i was ask to see the doctor they spoke to me in spanish and i answered back in english i don,t need a tranlater i would tell them and the shock look on there face,s said it all ,ive been called a wit back and so have some of my kids from white people in stores and in freeways so when i see jokes like that it brings back bad sad menory,s from the pass. think before anybody joke or judge other i give people a smile frist and never judge them even the bad racial ones

Nellie, no one here is talking against you or against the Mexican people or against Native Americans. I'm sorry you've been made to suffer, but none of this is against you.
