I was on a jury once....pedophile case. He was 18 and we had to decide to let him out of prison or institutionalize him since it was proven that he could NOT be cured. One juror was sympathetic to the pedophile since he was "so young" . I asked the juror (male) if HE had young grandsons....yes he did. I REMINDED him that the pedophile had a sleazy girlfriend with THREE boys under the age of 12. There was "inventory" waiting for him if released.....it was unanimous to institutionalize the pedophile. I was the only one to step up in defense of the kids. Good grief!

My first jury duty, going back into the 70s, lasted 2 1/2 months. It was a very big drug trial. As much as it disrupted our daily lives, it was very interesting to be part of it.

My DH has never been called up and I have been 4 times. What's with that!

Thanks for all the responses. I'm retired so it's not as if I have much else to do, but I do live alone with a dog and 4 cats with no one to step in long term to take care of them. I'm also one of those people who gets anxious in new situations with new people, so I'll spend the next 3 weeks worrying myself sick. Oh well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

Last time I was summoned it was for a drunk driving case. I think the reason I was dismissed is because I have a nephew who's a police officer. I'd guess that you'll be going home in a hurry.

I thought I would get dismissed from an asbestos lung cancer case. I told the court that I what what I considered to be morally right and what was considered to be legal were not always one and the same! I also told them I thought smoking could exacerbate health issues, if not cause them!

I think it was because it was around five PM and there weren't that many other people to choose from that I was kept!

Then the the case was settled out of court and we didn't know the outcome.

I've been summoned once, and was dismissed because so many members of my family are in law enforcement. I was so disappointed. I really want to be on a jury, I think it's our civic duty to serve if chosen.

TOTALLY agree with you there! I worked as a bookkeeper for a law firm for a while. One of the things that really bugged me was when people would get upset or offended by legal jargon. You almost have to think of the terminology as another language. There were so many rumors flying around when Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney got divorced and the term "fraud" was used.

I have never been called, but my two daughters have when both of them turned 18 and both of them ended up on a case.
