Compare features. small notebook/laptop/tablets with Kindle app can do also.
Check your local public library - I download audio books to my mp3 for free!

I have just bought a Kendel Fire and am very pleased. It is much cheaper than the iPad. Since I do have a new iPhone that gets me on the net and here I did not need anything more.

Battery life seems great. I have not had it go dead on me yet and I read and explore on it almost as much as I do with my iPhone and laptop. I think it is suppose to last 4+ HOURS.

I have the nook 3g and would like to upgrade to the Nook color. My son has the Kindle fire and loves it. It goes online and I believe it will skype.

Something you might want to consider. You cannot buy fom Amazon if you have a nook and you cannot buy from Barns and Noble if you have a Kindle. We went to a tablet for my hubby since he has authors from both companies. Not sure how it works with an ipad.

As for me, after spending several days playing with the third-generation iPad, i think the new iPad is really superior to its competitors like Kindle Fire, Galaxy tab etc.

I have heard it is difficult to print from an iPad. Is this true? Can you print at all from a kindle fire?

I would say one drawback of the ipad is that it's bigger. My daughter carries her Kindle in her purse. The ipad wouldn't be as portable in my opinion.
