I have the ceramic that looks like wood and love it. Always shines and so easy to take care of.

I have not seen these...but we are very limited on what is available in this rural town...will make a note to search though...

my next thought is marble..I had that in Italy and LOVED it...or Terrazo...

I love your kitchen, just the right size.

I had tile and hated it. I would get leg cramps from the cold tile going through my house shoes and standing on it to cook. Also was slick in the humidity...
Can't tell you how many times I fell on my rear.

I like the wood laminate because I mop mine every day. My dogs drip and drop on the floors and I clean with disinfectant everyday. The laminate looks great and it gets a beating here.

Have you looked at Allure? It's a DIY plank flooring - probably a vinyl that comes in wood grains or tile patterns. It's so much more forgiving with bad feet and a bad back. Warmer, too. Lumber Liquidators has it at good prices if the shipping wouldn't eat up the savings. How far is your nearest Home Depot?

I have a lot of porcelain tile in my home... and I can tell you this... IT'S DURABLE.

ANYTHING glass thing you accidentally drop onto the tile (or falls out of the fridge that's glass) will break about 99% of the time unless you can buffer it's impact with your FOOT. I'm glad I went with medium color grout, but I wish I would have gone DARKER NOW.

I regret not going with a good grade vinyl. I went with tile because I am a dog lover and when they track mud in.. or get to tearing around the house the tile handles it well.

I have seen some VINYL that looks every bit as good as my tile. I won't put tile in again. I got the tile on sale, but even then it was expensive.

    Just my two bits worth.

(CORRECTION**.. I wrote laminate when I mean vinyl!!). Yes...we have had other friends who had their entire laminate floor ruined by a leaking faucet while they were gone for a weekend. They REGRET putting it in due to it's inability handle any water.

Why? I have laminate floors (they were here when we bought the place) and we love them. So easy to clean and after 4 years we can't see any wear even with 3 dogs tearing around on them.
I've had two times that the connection for the icemaker leaked...and twice we had to change out the floor...and you can't mop it...or at least not this stuff...the seams swell...and ruins the floor...not being able to wet mop is NOT a good thing in my kitchen...

    Purplemem...
OH YES.. LEG CRAMPS - FOOT FATIGUE!! By the time I was done cooking a big meal OR doing a lot of baking (like for the holidays) my feet and legs were killing me. We were contemplating buying professional grade kitchen mats when I accidentally discovered that wearing good ol' RUBBER FLIP FLOPS when working in the kitchen made all the difference in the world. We don't have your humidity, but boy howdy do I relate to your leg cramp comment. I'm chunky, but my husband is not and he was also getting leg cramps if he helped me for very long.

    TRY IT!

House had laminate in the kitchen when we bought it, love it, even with all the "farm" stuff looks good. Redid our main bathroom and wanted something that I wouldn't slip and fall. Bought slate, used dark grout, replaced the counter with tile and dark grout. Is wonderful. Formerly had tile with light grout, never again. The cement is durable and now they can do wonderful patterns and stuff. Had smooth colored cement in our older SW home, slippery and showed every step we took. Would love hardwood in living room and bedrooms but not around water or heavy "farm" traffic :D Your kitchen is adorable, you can find blue slate and it isn't that expensive. Cleans easily too.

We have tile in the kitchen and bathroom and laminate in the rest of the house. Took up all the old carpet when we remodeled with laminate. Both of us have less sinus problems now. I would never put laminate anywhere close to water.
