Yes, yes, yes! And if I hold a door for someone who doesn't thank me, I say "You're Welcome".

It is a required part of our life. All of us would have gotten spanked or smacked up side the head. Both of my boys are required to hold the door if not there would be he!! To pay.

I do and if I am holding the door open for someone else that forgets to say "Thank You" I just say "You're Welcome" because I can only assume their voice was so soft I didn't hear them actually talk.

Most of the time. When I don't say it, it's because the person is doing something obnoxious like standing right in the entryway while holding it, so that there's no way to go through short of rubbing up against him. IMO, if you're just being nice, you make way. Guys don't do this when they hold the door for other guys. They pass through and hold the door or they get behind it so the other guy can pass through.

When that happens to me, I'll request that they move through the door so I can get through it, too. And if they do, then I'll thank them. But very often, they get nasty when I point out (however nicely) that I can't get through the doorway with them standing in it.

Of course I do. And, frankly, I don't understand anyone who would not acknowledge someone else's consideration with a simple thanks. The one that drives me a bit nuts is when you hold a door open for someone and then a dozen people sail on through without offering to take the door or even a nod of thanks.

Definitely. We have taught our children, also. It is a sad commentary, but waitresses always comment on "how polite your children are" when they merely say "Thank you" for their food. I hate it when someone says to the waitress, "Yeah, gimmy a hamburger and coke." WHAT?? I want to correct him, but I agree with those who have said it would be rude to do so. I do, however, point out that rude person as a bad example to my children.
