Can't remember when I was there last. I pay higher prices and go to my local grocery store and farmers market.
No reason to go to WM when there is no fabric to look at and buy.

Not everybody lives in a place where raising their own food is an option. You still have the right to know where what you buy and eat is from.

I agree, but if you are not willing to pay the price that the local farmers HAVE to charge, go to Walmart, but do NOT complain. I charge $20 for a bushel of tomatos, home grown, and beautiful. But does the buyer consider MY costs? I make $1.50 a bushel.

We also live in town. We grow a garden and eat venison.
We do a swap with gardens items ,when we harvest, with our neighbor's. I don't can, I freeze everything. Basil is a good freezer item. I also make my own marinara sauce . I do go to MKT to buy my corn and a few other things we don't grow.

OK I don't complain about the prices farmers pay but I have definitley noticed that the shelves are turning "white" at Walmart. It is all great value brands. Seriously, look the next time. I don't always buy name brands but I have noticed lately all hte Great Value items. I like walmart for the books, magazines, etc. I guess I am old fashioned and hate changes. YOu get used to a store a certain way and when it changes, you feel it. Just like when they change a character on a soap opera or show, the whole charactre changes.

I love the Farmers Markets this time of year. And I do not like WalMart anymore. It is a free Country here & I do not like any Store forcing me to buy one brand of anything...their brand. Soooo I do very little shopping there. I prefer to pay a bit extra and shop at the Homeland Store where I can have a selection. And they seem to appreciate the business. That makes me feel good. I do carry my own stuff out but at least they do offer. Okay, I will get off of my rant against WM now.

We don't shop at Walmart now since they remodeled the store, they raised prices, took out the fabric department and have to stand in line at checkout. We shop elsewhere now and save $ and less time in checkout.

I'm originally from the Chicago Northwest Subs. (born and raised) I had to move to central Ill. and was appalled that I have to do my grocery shopping in a Wal-Mart. (only place in town) What's the world coming too. No choices.

If you are not willing to do these things, do not complain about where your food comes from, because unless you handle it yourself, you never really know.
OR you can work closely with the farmer. I work with a group that does all the raising I help with the processing. I work with a local butcher that raises his own beef and pork or will hook me up with a farmer. I have my own egg hens. Last year my garden failed due to tomato blight  Still haven't decided if I am putting one in this year, my back is screaming no right now.

My farmer friends have a good saying... You can pay the farmer a little more now or you pay the doctor a lot more later.

I'm in town and trying to figure out where I can put a small garden, at least so I can have fresh in season, but livestock?? the city won't let me!! I do go to a store which sells local produce and has a butcher shop. I go to Wally World for a few things..cat litter, junk food and cleaning supplies. I'd get some frozen items, but by the time you stand in line 20-25 minutes, why bother?? I never have understood why they have 25 checkouts and NEVER more than 5 open..what a waste. I don't think its a matter of being willing to go elsewhere, its a matter of necessity. I did notice that they have cut their selection way back and its mostly store brand now. I do not trust them, not one bit. I work for a very large company who does supply some items to them. They are very very pushy about how much an item can sell for and insist suppliers cut costs. Its always a disaster waiting to happen, no one store should have that much control over the market. When they first started up didn't they tout how all their stuff was from USA? Greed is a terrible thing.

I won't shop at a WalMart. I am firmly against their purchasing and merchandising practices. They have no remorse if they move into a small town, drive all the local shops out of business, then close up due to lack of customers. Entire towns have disappeared because of them. On the purchasing side they will bleed a supplier until they are losing money with every sale and then cut them off. Too many people are financially devastated by their business practices. (Rant done)
