Default Microsoft Windows Scam

I just received a call from an 855 number that said my Microsoft Windows license had expired and to call them right away. Windows licenses don't expire. Do Not Call them back. It's a scam trying to get your money.

I have been watching scambaiting videos on Youtube, they are hilarious. They tie up the lines and waste the scammers' time.

The IRS will not call you and request Itunes cards.
The federal government is not sending you any grants.
Anyone who says they can fix your computer, who calls YOU, is a scammer.
Any "advance fee" to get a lot of money is a scam.

If you give anyone money through Western Union, or MoneyGram, or read them the numbers off the back of a gift card, you might as well be throwing your money away and you won't get it back.

Yes, that is fun. We like to do that too. And yes we have Macs.

I got a couple of calls a few years back. I told him I didn't have a computer. He didn't believe me, so he called the 2nd time. I told him the same. No more calls. I don't mind lying to someone trying to get my money.

I am concerned with elderly people who may get easily confused and then get taken by these charlatans. My Aunt had dementia and would have been a perfect candidate for this nonsense.

Unfortunately, that happens a lot of times. They know older people are more likely to fall for a scam and try to take advantage of them.

Our latest scam call was from Canada. I never answered the call but saw the address on ID and when I reported it someone else said it was about Microsoft.

I hope she had someone looking out for her, especially financially.

I know Medicare is changing from using SS numbers on their cards so this is probably true. I tried to check snopes.com but it was so slow I gave up. You can't be too careful these days.

I just got another possible scam alert from a friend. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Scammers are calling saying starting 4/1/18 Medicare is changing from using SS numbers to alpha numeric. Scammers are saying until it comes you need a temporary card that will cost you $50. Then they want your bank account or credit card number so they can process the temp card. Medicare will not call you unless you tell them to and you do not need a temporary card.
