Start each day with a purpose.

take some time off, organize your space for those things you always thought about. Soon, even if you find another type of job to fill in time, do things for yourself, because you want to.

Dig in the dirt, knit, crochet.... A sewing project to do at night in front of the TV.

I retired in 2007, worked part time until January 2011 and decided to start back working full time when I found the "perfect" retirement job. Occasionally I think (mostly in the winter), why am I doing this and then I remember how much I didn't really like staying at home. Everyone is different - some people love it. I guess I just wasn't really ready to retire when I did. I'll probably re-retire in 5 years or so.....maybe LOL!

I also found a clinic where I volunteer. The I quilt, and joined 2 guilds as well as joined a group that does pillow cases for kids with cancer. I also have formed a great attachment to our local library, since I love to read a lot.

I voluntarily retired from a job I really liked, close to home, great people, etc. Just felt it was time. And have had no regrets. I enjoy every day and am never bored. There is always something to do, something to read, something to watch, and if I want to go out, some place to go, someone to see, etc. Mr. Stitchnripper is very grateful for any meal I have for him, so cooking is very simple for us. He still works, so I don't mind doing the house stuff. I go to the gym 3 mornings a week (not that I love going, but it makes me feel good when I am done) and have a very easy part time job one morning a week. Rest of time seems to go by very nicely. It is a pretty nice adventure.

I volunteer with our police department, quilt, help with my great nephew and niece, help friends, LWTL (Lunch With The Ladies) several times a month (old school friends, former co-workers, neighbors), read, read, read, nap, walk, and whatever else I feel like doing.

Just take it slow and follow alwayslearning advice, especially about overcommitting!

Being laid off is not like retirement simply because being laid off isn't your decision. You also can't commit to doing anything useful because you have to look for work!
