No Green Beans!!!
#61
My green beans have not produced very good this year either. But also am having problems with green peppers. So hot for so long and so darn much rain. Zukes flowered and plants died. Go figure.

Since the local pickles have been harvested, we've gotten about 8 more beans. Guess the farmer's bees aren't so busy over there any more!
If we can just hang on, we might get enough beans for one meal. Let's see if that happens before frost comes......(sigh)

this has happened here too, farmer says pollination the problem, mine are now setting and got 4lb y/day off 3 pots and made yummy soup.
my old aunt always went around the flowers with a large feather that had been dipped in honey water to attract the bees, if I get this problem next yr ,will try it!

I bought Jerry Baker's book, "Supermarket Super Gardens". It has the following recipe to aid pollination. Put 2 cups of water in a pan, add 1/2 cup sugar & boil, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Let mixture cool, dilute it with 1 gallon of water. Pour solution into a handheld sprayer bottle. Then spritz your blooming plants. Soon the bees will come. Hope it works for you.

This year half of our beans, all of our carrots and beets didn't come up. I don't know why. Like you, we used the same seed we always have. My sister has a concoction that she uses once a season after stuff has come up. a 5 gallon pail of water, 1 16oz. regular coke and 1/2 cup of amonia. She says to only do it once a season and to use it on everything. Her garden comes out great.

We're starting to get a few more beans, now that it's not quite as hot here. The ones we've eaten so far seem to not be as tender as other years, even tho we pick them while they're still thin. We are enjoying what we have!
