Ours really smells like burning dust when it comes on too. But that won't happen for a while!!!

I grew up in LA. and can remember family gatherings at Christmas with the a/c on!

We had that smell this weekend too. If this cold rain doesn't stop we're gonna smell even worse LOL

I know the feeling -- we had to turn ours on not long ago -- we're expecting snow this week!!!!

We had to turn ours on last night when we got in from Connecticut. I was too tired to notice if it smelled or not. I drove back. It took 8 hrs. (It took my son 9 hrs to drive there, bobbing and weaving the whole time  )

Around here it is dust in the air vents when furnace turned on and outdoor fire pit smell coming in when we do have the windows open. Nasty when it is in the house, wonderful when sitting out enjoying it ourselves.

Sounds like you need to get a furnace tune up, cleaning and making sure everything is ok for the season. Just had my moms done and he said there was so much crap in there it could have started a fire. We usually do the tune up every couple of years at least.
