My old furnace did that. My new one(2yrs old) does not.

Its furnace dust you smell. Goes away pretty quickly if you burn some candles the day you light the furnace.

Know what you mean ... it's actually the DUST burning and also the residue on gas burners in older furnaces
It's a good idea to have gas furnaces checked every fall - to be safe. Another very good idea - install Carbon Monoxide sensors in your home :)

We just started using the heat again two days ago. We have a severe storm warning for tonight with gale force winds. Guess winter has arrived.

Try vacuuming the furnace, before you turn it on for the season. I would sneeze and sneeze before I learned this trick.

I burn off for the first time while it is like today... have the doors open because it is SO nice outside...that way, the smell goes out and I really don't feel the furnace heat, because the doors/windows are open...you only need to run for about 30 minutes...so no real waste and it beats that smell!
