OMG! I can watch any disgusting thing on tv ER shows and the news. I have to tell my husband "turn your head if you don't want to see this." ... "ok, you can turn back now." But all these stories are giving me goose bumps and making me light-headed. May be because this stuff is close to home for me.

Now I'm wondering - should all of us quilters keep current on our tetanus shots? It seems like a good idea.

I remember my mother doing that when I was a child. So scary. I hope it feels better soon. I am impressed with your bravery.

I've done this...and the tetnus shot is very important....BTW, if you hold the finger up in the air, rather than letting in hang down, the pulse beat is not as bad.

Yup! Join the club. The needle skewered my finger and broke. I took the pliers and pulled it out. Cleaned the wound with peroxide, put a new needle in and kept on sewing.

Been there, done that. I was 17 at the time and my parents were out of town. My sister grabbed the pliers and pulled it out. Nothing much the emergency room could do since it was just a hole. I did clean it well. Yes I went ahead and finished my project also. But I also learned my lesson. My fingers stay well away from the needle now.

oh yes. Did that with Gramma's treadle when I was 18 and had a job typing checks for an insurance company. Try typing accurately with 9 fingers! and having to take every one with mistakes to the supervisor to have voided. Remember those eraser pencils with the brush on the end?! Come to think of it, they'd be good for cleaning out the inside of a sewing machine!) Hope you heal up fast and Happy Quilting!

I once sewed through the tip of my finger. Like a dummy, I left the needle in the down position and yanked my finger away...tore the tip of my finger open. :oops:
Thankfully it was at the VERY tip, so the tear was not too bad... It took forever to heal and hurt like crazy. Lesson learned, if you sew through your finger, pull the needle into the 'up' position and remove needle from machine before pulling hand away...

Ouch, is right!!! Brave woman. We can stand so much more pain that a man!!!

It happened to my mom, too, when she was trying to teach me to sew. It made a lasting impression on me.

Depending on where you live, there may be an urgent care walk-in clinic what would be much quicker than ER for a non-life-threatening situation. Check with your insurance company. Some are covered.

I only did that once a long time ago. Once was enough!!!
