We didn't dare write in our books. We used the paper bags from the grocery store or even newspaper. If my dad saw us write in a book, he say some one may need that next year, don't mess it up. We always had to use pencil when making notes. Only used ink when writing book reports or English assignments. Dad always made sure we had pencils and paper. He would order from the supply houses at work. Once dad did some work for the butcher and he gave us freezer paper to cover our books.
