Subject lines---would anyone else find them to be more helpful if they were longer such as the one I'm posting now? I'm continuing to type here in the subject line just to give us all a feel for how much room we have on a title line for a new topic.

When I only have a short period of time, which is usually the case, I look for subject lines that are short and specific. I feel that the subject line should summarize the topic of the post in as few words as possible.
I'm sure I'm missing excellent posts and I'm also sure I'm missing posts where I could make a contribution. :(

It would be helpful (to me) if people would put what the topic is about in some part of their heading. I'm fairly new and have done some searches and it's difficult to find a topic if it's not in the heading. Even if it's something like "Give me your opinion" then add "Of my whackyblocks". It could be searched later for "whackyblocks" if that's what the person wanted to find out about. It would be helpful to be as specific as possible and think about the future too. There's so much great stuff here!

"Batik DP9" is a better title than "Look at my batik DP9"
"Question" is not a good title. "I have a question" is not a good title. "Look at my new toy" is not a good title.
"Mitered corners..need help" is a good title
"Featherweight..my new toy" is a good title
Our search function would be more useful if the titles had some meaning.
One last thing...please when you post a picture of your quilt, include the name of the pattern or even post a link to the pattern to avoid pages and pages of people asking "What pattern did you use?"
Okay, I must be cranky..so I'll stop now.

You have made a very good point. When I use search, I have to try and remember what the subject was, where I saw what I wanted. Maybe changing the subject format would help if it were something like this...Red Starburst quilt-What border do I use? IMHO

I agree that the board would be an even nicer place if people were more thoughtful in naming their new topics. My own pet hates include names like 'do you...' and then you have to open it to read the question!

I agree wholeheartedly. I spend W-A-Y too much time on this board as it is, and sometimes get frustrated opening threads that I otherwise would not have had the title been more specific.
Just my 2 cents worth.
