1. I need solitude and silence as much as food, water and oxygen.
2. When I was a kid, the only way I could get bubble gum was if someone put it in my trick-or-treat bag. (My elders refused to provide me with any.)
3. I wish I could do Domino Knitting 24/7.
4. My version of doing a crossword puzzle is going to a Norwegian newspaper site and trying to figure out some of the shorter articles (I had 2 semesters of N. in school).
5. If I won a million dollars, I'd go live somewhere in the cool part of India (northwest) and work with orphans (including sewing and knitting them clothes).
6. I'm dying to find instructions for a small, frilly, life-like origami butterfly (I saw one in the Chinese movie "Yi-Yi" ).
7. When my mother occasionally switches from her usual Berliner German to stilted "High German," I feel like I'm on Mars, wearing a prickly burlap shirt. :lol:
8. I somehow learned to read by osmosis, without anyone teaching me, before I ever started school.
9. I'm fascinated by the fact that the Chinese word for stepmother and the Polish word for nanny are almost identical (bec. those 2 languages are from totally different linguistic groups, so the similarity points back to the original language).
10. I can never get enough of reading memoirs (or hearing elderly folks tell stories from their past), especially ones by Shoah survivors or people who grew up in poverty (for example Rick Braggs' "All Over But the Shoutin' ").

I'm not sure I can think of 10 different things but I'll try.
1. I'm still a tom-boy. Since the age of 8 I grew up w/o a mother, or sister, aunt etc. Only my father and older brothers. I've never had a perm, wore make-up, never had a manicure, etc. Just never got interested in girly things. But I can re-load shotgun shells, go skeet shooting, change spark plugs on my car, etc!! I think my 2 ex-husbands were intimidated a little :-)
2. I can't read novels, only history or biographies. I had a terrible time in school when they wanted us to read the classics.
3. I'd love to be married again but I'm sure that "ship has sailed"...
4. I'm much more religious than anyone realizes, even my married kids.
5. I'm a pretty good cook.
6. I'm almost honest to a fault. The only time I'll bend the truth is if it'll avoid hurting someone I care about. I'll go back into a store and return a nickle if they give me too much change. Once I went through the self-checkout and asked for $20 cash back. The machine gave me the $20 then I noticed that the person before me had left their $20 in the slot, so I took the extra $20 to the customer service. They couldn't believe it. Kept telling me how honest I am etc and I could have just kept it. But I knew God was watching.

#1. My husband and I grew up less than 1/4 mile apart from each other, but we did not ever meet or cross paths until I was 29 and he was 34.
#2. I have what I call an excellent 'color memory.' I never need to take fabric swatches to the stores to match something I have in my stash. I can always pinpoint something that will work perfectly, or not at all.

1. I once had 5 knitting machines. We had a machine knitters club in South Florida.
2. I’ve owned 2 Harleys. I broke 5 ribs riding down Grandfather Mountain in NC.
3. I love to sail and fish and spent 3 weeks on a sailboat with no electricity and only the ocean to bathe in. The water in the Bahamas is amazingly clean and clear.
4. I am a middle child
5. Diets are not my forte
6. Reading has always put me to sleep. I didn’t find out until I retired that it was due to keratoconus.
7. When I was young, I knew about the chronic aches and pains of older folks, but could not even imagine what it was like until now.
8. I’d love to get married again, but don’t think that will happen
9. I’m amazed that I taught my children fiscal responsibility and they turned out so, so opposite.
10. I absolutely hate commuting to work. That’s why I took early retirement.

Wow, I guess I don't think of myself as being unusual, it's the other people who are unusual, LOL! But here goes:
1. I would rather sleep than do anything else, even sewing!
2. I love to brainstorm but not carry out the actual task. (Explains my hoard of UFO's!)
3. There is a constant stream of one-liners going through my mind and at one time, I considered trying stand-up comedy.
4. I love to dance and would give anything to be able to sing but can't carry a tune in a bucket.
5. I can write backwards almost as good as I write forward.
6. I am EXTREMELY possessive! I respect other people's property and rights and expect the same toward me. This applies most to some members of my family.
7. I love to shoot and carry a pistol when I am out on the road.
8. No-one has ever thrown a party for me or surprised me with a gift except my soon-to-be ex-husband!
Guess that is all I can come up with this early in the morning. Very interesting exercise!

#6: :cry: I'm sorry you have that condition, Nan. As a kid, Daddy wasn't any good at reading, and they thought he was retarded, but it turned out he needed glasses. Reading is such a tetchy sort of thing (physically speaking). Especially when something is printed in microscopic size, grrrr! (Like the ingredients on the back of some boxes.)

#9: That must've been a huge disappointment! You put so much effort and your whole heart into trying to forge them into the best they can be, only to have it feel like you poured gold down a drain. (Or so I would imagine, anyway.)

and with keratoconus, glasses do not help, only contacts or cornea replacement in the past. i've now had corneal rings implanted.
