I tip mine 20% as well. But last time she did a Brazilian blow-out and it took 3 hours so I gave her a much larger tip. That was one expensive appointment !!!

My standard for a number of years now has been to leave $10 after getting my hair done. All this tipping for this and for that is becoming a little much IMO.

yes, like nativetexan said, they don't make much. a lot of them rent the chair for about $250 or more a week. Others get paid 42.50/HR and are expected to make the rst in tips. this goes on at the ritzy hairdressers and the chepo walk ins.

My hair cut is about $12 and I give $20. I go every 2-3 months.

I am not taking any side on this - but there are a lot of workers that have low-paying jobs that have to stand on their feet all day -

$42.50 an hour sounds like a decent wage to me. I rarely have my hair cut, but when I do, I tip 20%. I just cut handfuls out myself yesterday so I'm good for a while.

Where I'm from, $42.50 hour is considered very high-paying.

Especially by someone making minimum wage only getting a few hours per week of work.

When I take my Grandson in to have his hair cut I give 5 dollars as a tip on a 12 dollar cut. That's about a 40% tip.

I don't tip a hair stylist cause I never go to one. All they want to do is chop off my long hair.........lol

It takes my hairdresser 15 min. to cut my hair, regardless of length (and it has been many over the 30+ years I've been going to her). She usually charges $30, and I tip 20%. She even provides a calculator. I'd say that was generous, if you think of it as an hourly rate of $120, but she does a wonderful job. I worry she will retire!
