What a wonderful idea... I wish I lived closer to my Mom cause that would be perfect for her as she hardly eats anything at one time... plus it is just a wonderful idea to start with...... thankyou for sharing your stories

Years ago, I had dinner with an older and wiser friend. After dinner I helped clear the table. I started to throw away a tablespoon of peas. ( I had just reached a place where I decided to throw away little bits before they grew hair in my frige.) She stopped me. "I save those." Then she showed me her freezer. She had TV dinner trays filled with dinners for a 96 yr old. friend from those little bits. She doesn't eat much and what I would have thrown away feeds her for a week. Once a week I take her frozen dinners and a lunch. We eat and visit and I take the last weeks trays home for next week. Little things like that can enable someone to remain in their home where they are comfortable.

I did this when my dear MIL was still with us. I would make up the frozen dinners and she always had something even when she didn't feel like cooking. She always loved homemade soups in the winter. I'd spike them with extra nutrition as sometimes I think she really didn't eat right. she passed at age 94.

When we travel to see dh father who is 93, I will take his favorite food with us and freeze up what we do not eat that day so he can enjoy it another day. Things like cooked beef heart or raisin pie...or other things he might request.
Its a joy to see him enjoy his favorite foods.

I think this is a great idea, I think I will try this for myself. I never thought about doing this for me or a neighbor. What a great idea. oops repeated myself, oh no. I usually take meals to my MIL and some of her neighbors who live in a place for seniors.

So many of our elder neighbors are the forgotten. Years ago while doing private duty for the elderly one would not have believed how they were treated by family. So so many just exist w/o human contact. This wonderful woman is truly an angel on earth for her caring. Just a tiny bit of caring builts a mountain of love.
