Our barn is close to the road so we get a lot of cats dumped off here. There must be close to 20 cats in the barn now. We just keep feeding them and we don't have a mouse or squirrel problem.

When I lived out in the country that happened by my house too. Always in the middle of the night I'd hear a strange car coming down the road, stop in front of my house (I was 1/2 way between any intersections) and I'd hear the car door open and close. Then the car would speed off. In the morning I'd find a dog or cat outside. Mostly I called the dog catcher, but I did keep a cat once. He was the best cat I ever had. So I could never figure out why he was dumped.
But people who abandon these poor animals should be ashamed of themselves. I live in Ohio where it gets pretty cold and these idiots would drop off animals in the middle of winter too.

Growing up we lived on a farm and people were always dumping unwanted pets near our house. We even once had a shetland pony show up. That was after a tornado went through but no one ever claimed him. Daddy kept him for years until the grandkids didn't ride him anymore then gave him to a man for his two daughters. We called all the local horse farms but still no one claimed him. Someone had shot him with buckshot so after Momma nursed him back to health that became his name. We know he belonged to someone because he had a clipped mane and tale when he arrived.

my mom when she was living found cat with rope tied on her neck cutting into her skin, her and step dad took it in, turned out to be full blood persian, so beautiful and sweet. I have took in dogs and found homes for them, stories turned out wonderful. cant save world but can make a difference.

What is most disturbing about such stories is that so called "people" who abuse animals are only one step away from abusing humans. I'm sure there are those who won't think abandoning an animal is the same thing as out right abuse but IMHO, abuse is abuse, and totally heartless.

Put me down for several rescues. We took in Missy almost three years ago weh we realized her owners were no longer feeding her and winter was approaching. I was so tempted to call the authorities but was afraid they'd say she wandered off and wanted her back, just to dodge any legal trouble. Several of us in the neighborhood know the true story so we "watch" to make sure they don't get any more pets; if they do, we will call.

I have a cat who came through our property who was so skinny that I started feeding her, took me a month to get near her. I just adopted an abandoned black german shepherd who came from a kill shelter in KY, she is such a sweet dog but way underfed. It often makes me wonder how people could do that to their animals.

Blessing to all of you who take in these precious little ones. One of my Goldens is a rescue, she was close to death when we took her- from a so called breeder. We took her to find a home, she found one all right- here with us. Our Anna is beautiful and healthy now and a special part of our family.

The reason I have my cat Mokie is because my granddaughters father and his wife only like kittens and puppies. As soon as they've outgrown that stage, off to the shelter they go!

My DG was 5 when they were going to take Mokie to the shelter and begged me to take him.

He is now an overweight, very lazy, spoiled fat cat, which I love to death.

I lost him a few years ago as he pushed out the screen during a thunderstorm chasing another cat. We looked that night, but couldn't find him. I had just taken a sleeping pill. The next morning I ended up in the hospital for a week. I think the only reason they let me out when they did was I kept crying about my Mokie. We put out 2 cages and caught him down the street and a different cat in my yard.

He is such a joy to my life! I wish I could save them all!

Boy, I am right there with you venting about people who do not take care of their pets and then either abuse or abandon them! There is truly nothing that makes me angrier! We live on a farm just outside town limits and people are always dumping unwanted animals.

One time we had a beautiful spaniel type dog show up in the middle of winter...he definitely had belonged to someone because his grooming had been kept up. Of course, we fed him and tried to find his owner. Well, I came home one day from school to discover he AND our dog (our beautiful Border Collie who always stayed at home) were both gone! DH was on a business trip so I looked everywhere for them...we live on 160 acres with several outbuildings. I checked with all the neighbors. I called the town's dog catcher who told me he had a black and white dog but it was a female. Long story short...4 days later, I had a phone call and our dog was in 'doggy jail' at the county animal shelter 20 miles away. He had been sent there by our town's dog catcher who obviously needed a lesson on the difference between a male and a female dog. I immediately left school and headed there to get my dog...and when I got there, I was chastised by a worker for allowing my dog to stray. Now, mind you, our dog had never gone anywhere until this dog was 'dumped' at our house! Now, we have the wireless fencing and our dog cannot go...but we still get dogs/cats dumped all the time. We feed the cats at the barn and they come and go. Any dog who gets dumped, we call the animal shelter. Our dog is 'expensive' enough to take care of; just because we have farm ground does not mean we want to provide for all the unwanted animals, also.

I have 2 rescued animals. My cat Trouble showed up on our door step 12 years ago. Her neck scarred from who knows what. She's terrifyed of trash bags and beer. Dumped in one?? we'll never know. She's lived up to her name, but she's so sweet and loving. She now has cancer, but she's safe and cared for, and will be for the rest of her life.
Our dog Gadget was found at the drs. office. We watched him sneak in 3 times while we waited our turn. He was sitting out side when we left. We scooped him up and took him home. He's been my youngest DD's best friend for 3 years. He has a painfull shortened leg. Sometime as a puppy, his leg was broken,and not treated. It damaged the growth plate. Now he has a herniated disk in his back. He's such a sweet little guy, and some one threw him away. Despite their expensive health problems, we take care of them, do with out so they have vet care, and love them while they are with us. I get so mad when people neglect or abuse animals. They should suffer whe neglect/abuse they dish out. I have trapped abandened animals many times. Animal Controll knew me by site. I would drive the animals to the shelter myself so I wouldn't have to wait for AC to get to me. My area at the time was a popular dumping ground.
