Wireless Routers

Have you noticed a relationship between the disconnection and your cordless phone ringing or being used nearby? Are your neighbors close enough (like on the other side of a wall) and have cordless phones?
We had this issue and had to replace our cordless phones; once we did that everything was perfect. We have a desktop, several laptops, a printer and even our Wii use it.
A little more information from http://www.anetforums.com/posts.aspx?ThreadIndex=29876 -
Symptom(s):
Interference from 2.4 GHz cordless telephones. The interference can be experienced by connection disconnects, pauses or disruptions in data transmissions, or other erratic connection behaviors when the 2.4 GHz cordless telephone is powered on or in use.
Cause:
2.4 GHz cordless telephones operate at the same frequencies as 2.4 GHz 802.11b and 802.11g wireless LAN access points, network adapters, and other devices.
Solution:
* Change the location of the Access Point and/or the base of the cordless phone.
* Switch the channel on the Access Point. If that doesn't work, try another channel.
Note: Many 2.4 GHz cordless telephones operate with what is called frequency hopping technology. This technology utilizes the entire frequency range also used by 802.11b and 802.11g wireless devices. Thus changing the channel of the Access Point may not eliminate the interference problem.
* Operate the phone with the antenna lowered, if that is an option.
* If all else fails, use a 900 MHz phone instead of a 2.4 GHz phone.

I purchased a wireless router so that my grandson could use his laptop and I could use the desktop while he was staying with me for several months. It was a real pain to get established and make it work with the cable/DSL company. I bought a CNet CWR-854V. The cable company would tell me the problem was with the router. The router company would tell me the problem was with the cable company. After two weeks of going round and round, I got a tech from CNet on the phone and we worked our way through pages and pages and pages of diagnostics before the ruling finally came down that there was something wrong with the router.
They replaced it, it hooked up easy peasy and no trouble since. You have to make sure it is not blocked by walls, objects, other things with a wireless signal (phone, monitor, etc.) And you should also set it up from the beginning password protected so that all your neighbors don't use it too.
It was worth the money (not all that much) and I keep it on even though I have no wireless things. But, when any of my family comes to visit, they just pop on and off the internet from any other room in the house easy as pie.

I have one and love it. I hooked it up myself with no problems, however I have DSL. I think hooking it up to satellite is a whole 'nuther ballgame. I would most definetly call in some experts and save myself the headaches. It would be worth the time on the phone.

I have a netgear router and 6 computers hooked up to it -- 3 wireless and 3 using cat5 through the walls. I have a lot of computer experience and still wound up calling the support number. Yes, I got connected to India, but after moving above the first level of technical support I got someone who would not quit until all my computers were up and running. It was a challenge, but it has been working fine for 3 years.

This happened at my house too. We ended up switching providers. They said the constant dropped signals was because there were too many people on the line for the line capacity. Once we switched to ATT the signal has never been dropped, and we have constant internet as well as wireless printing from several computers to a single printer. It can be frustrating to keep having to reboot.

Cisco has a wireless router called "Valet". It is super easy to install - it uses a flash drive - you just plug it into your computer and follow the prompts! I've installed 2 different "Valets" in 2 houses - E A S Y ! The price has come down a LOT since they were introduced - maybe $60-70. I run several computers and a wireless printer with no problem.
