Default Allergy problems with wool batting?

I keep reading about wool batting, and it sounds just wonderful to work with! But I wonder, are people who are allergic to wool going to have a problem with it? I'd hate to make one and give it to someone who is allergic, and only finds that out when they wake up with hives after sleeping under my quilt!

Has anyone who's used it ever had that problem?

Since most allergic reactions are from touching the allergen, having wool batting in a quilt should not cause a problem, since it is sandwiched between the top and backing. Of course, if you have problems with bearding while quilting, it might cause problems. If you are worried, ask the recipient before you sandwich the quilt.

The wool battings on the market now are not the old fashion scratchy wool of days gone by. It is hypoallergenic, washable ( with less shrinkage than cotton) lightweight, lofty and wonderful!
I have a friend who has stated many times she can not even ride in a car with me if I wear my wool coat, and yet her favorite, use all the time, year round quilt is one with Hobbes wool batting.

I am haappy to read that there is hypoallergenic wool batting. I have, in the past been environmentally ill. In getting treated for all the allergies I had, it is my understanding that the allergen cannot be in your body space.

I am allergic to wool, and am afraid to go near it, even with something between. You may want to ask the person you plan to give it to.
