I have it with the embroiders unit (which I have never used.) and I love it. My husband bought it as a surprise for me so I'm not exactly sure how much he paid for it. I have no complaints and it gets used to the hilt so it's a power horse.

My dealer gave me a quarter inch foot, along with a few more, when I bought the 440QE. I use it for all piecing, so doesn't matter....they all get the same size seams.
Another thing I like is the built in bobbin winder....not only does it work fast, but my machine seems to go on & on, so far as using bobbin thread. She's a worker :-)

I believe that the 440QE is intended as a quilters machine and a 1/4" foot comes with it.

i have had bernina 440 qe for about one year. love, love, love it. i hope to add embord feature later. i am still learning the machine. i have had a l028 bernina forever. it is my workhorse. the size of the needle is what allows you to stitch everything from gauze to leather with ease. i do love the bernina but there is nothing wrong with a little brother machine at $199 now at hancocks. it does not change the quality of your quilts. the quality of the stitch often depends on keeping the throatplate, bobin carriage and feeddogs clean and oiled. hope this helps. i never pass up the opportunity to buy a good clean machine of any brand at a garage sale if it is cheap...$10 - 20. i now have a couple that sew great and if a friend needs one. they can take it and use it.

The 440 QE does come with the 1/4" foot, but when I took my class there was someone in there that had a different model, so that's when we were told to move the needle 2 spaces to the right.

I have found that for me to get a scant 1/4", even with my 1/4" foot, I need to move my needle 1 space to the right....go figure, must mean my eyes are one space to the left!

Yep, nothing sews like a Bernina! Love, love, love it!

I have a 440QE. My girlfriend just bought one used from the Bernina dealer. She loves it! It was my dream machine and I bought it for myself fr my 60th birthday. She bought it for a GREAT price. Tell your dealer that you would be interested in a used one. The gal that traded her 440 bought the 830.

You may want to check with a Bernina dealer. I know that my dealer has alot of used Bernina machines that were traded in for the Series8 machine. They should be checked over by the dealer before they are sold, so they should be good to go and alot cheaper than buying a new one.

I have the Bernina 430 with the BSR and embroidery module. Someone traded it in and I received an incredible deal on it. I love, love, love my machine. I used to have a brother for my first machine. It helped make some beautiful quilts, but I wouldn't trade my Bernina for anything.
