Exactly! I have my grandmother's! These days I just use lightweight paper and a pencil to save my patterns, as I want to make things in different sizes.

Actually I used one in a sampler class we were doing a celtic design and this is how we traced the pattern onto the plain block so we could see where to but our bias (this was 5 years ago).I also used it to mark my black fabric when I did a reverse applique. So maybe it's not an antique yet! :) :)

My mom used to trace ALL of the stiching lines- darts, seams, everything- on whatever she was making (she didn't sew much, obviously her method was SO time consuming!) I was pretty young, but it would make me tired watching her! I was so relieved when I learned to sew on my own that I didn't need to do that! I still tease her about it!
