Default Can you use Golden Threads paper to hand quilt with?

So today I was making my quilt and wanted to do a shell pattern but my marks wouldn't show up, so I found this tear away paper that I could use but it says for machine quilting. But can I use the golden threads paper to hand quilt with? or is there something I can buy at hobby lobby or walmart that work?

I personally cannot imagine hand quilting thru paper and being able to make small, even stitches thru all the layers. I'm sure that others will have some ideas. Good luck on this quilt!

It really would not work well for hand quilting. What were you trying to use to make marks? And what is your fabric like (light, dark, small patterned)? There may be something better to use than what you have tried.

I think your best bet is to find a marker which will work on that fabric, as others have said. I can think of some things which are paper-like and you could try, (ex: Miracle Film and that paper which disolves in water--Sharon Schamber uses it for applique) but I doubt any would work as easily as the marked fabric.

I agree with Justabitcrazy on this. Try a Frixion pen maybe, they come in several colors and iron out completely. Hope you find what works for you.

My fabric was green, black and blue, I used my sewline chalk pencil. I could see some of the marks but not enough to really quilt. I will see if there is something better I can mark it with.

You might want to try cutting out freezer paper shapes. Iron to top, then use chalk dust or an old sliver of white soap to mark around the paper. Could also be done with regular paper if you use a re-positionable glue or glue stick on the back.

the golden threads paper tears really easily and I think the handleing of it while quilting would make it come apart before you're ready, it is great for machine quilting though.

You wouldn't be able to do a rocking hand quilting stitch through golden thread paper. You might be able to do the big stitch or stab stitch through it but I don't know how easy it would be to remove.

I have used the golden threads paper for hand quilting about 3 or 4 years ago.........when I wanted to quilt words in the border of a wedding gift. It's do-able but it is not easy. You'll want to pin it on. My mom, who has hand quilted most of her 82 years, and who was helping me quilt the words, told me to NEVER use that again. LOL
