I have now quilted the BEST stitch in the ditch seam I've EVER done! No sweat, no wavering, PERFECT! It cost me $19.95 and I will guarantee you, you won't be sorry!!!!
That was an excellent find for $19.99!

Sears on-line has generic sewing machine accessories that fit my Viking. But, their walking foot is $25.99 with a quilting bar, a lot less expensive than buying Vikings.
Here's the Sears site if anyone is interested:

I also got my "Stitch in the Ditch" foot
from the Sears on-line store. They are
so much thriftier!! I must confess that
"Quiltintime" gave mine to me, as a gift.
Now, how much lees, can you get one than
that? I just love it too.

I think it was $19.99 for my Viking but I'd pay double that now that I can see how much more accurate my seams are.
I believe what you are referring to is a 1/4 inch foot w/guide. It has a plate that keeps you from having the fabric go outside the 1/4 in space, unless you want the guide jutting into your fabric. It's one of those feet that's great, but annoying when you want to do something that doesn't involve a 1/4 inch seam exactly - I find myself having to change it all the time...

So what foot do you use for echo stitching? I really should make sure I am using the right one on this lapquilt I am finishing,

I have a Janome (actually three of them) and that foot looks like what they call blind hem foot on my machine. Will have to try it next time I stitch in the ditch. Marge

Would the stitch in the ditch foot work when quilting? I used my walking foot because of the thickness.

I haven't tried echo quilting yet. Probably would use the walking foot for that. Others will be able to answer that better.

Yes, the foot DOES look like the blind hem foot for Janome! Odd...they have 2 feet the same with two different names!

I actually tried the foot with 2 pieces of fabric and warm and natural inside. Didn't set it with aligned edges to see if it's better than the walking foot. To me, having the straight stitches in the ditch is more important than the walking foot's advantage. I use spray adhesive and LOTS of pins when I do quilting. So -- it's a toss up!!!!

That looks like the foot that came with my Janome MC4000 for blind hemming. Is it the same, or are there different features to it>? I use the blind hemming foot and it works pretty well. I just have to adjust my needle a smidgin' for it to be centered.
