Do you backstitch

I took a class with Anita Grossman Solomon at Quilting By the Lake last summer. She has everyone press their seams open and believe me, if they aren't backstitched,, they will come apart. I would not bother for regular pressing of the seams to one side but if you want it really flat and press your seams open, then you really should backstitch.

I used to, but, after reading that most don't back stitch when putting blocks together, I decided not to. I leave a long thread at beginning and end, when I sew into rows, I figure it would be held. I backstich on beginning and ends of rows

I agree I strip piece and double cut on several patterns so no way to back stitch when doing a quilt many of your seams are stitched across with the next step so this ties them securely without trying to back stitch the rule for backstitching I think pretains to garment making where you have stress on seams.
