Only on projects that have a stress point..like pillow cases..sometimes on paper-pieced projects.

Okay Ladies... even if the quilt has borders? Please educate me! Do you stitch with a regular quilters 2.0 stitch or do you baste stitch it? and how far 'in' from the edge?

I'm new... it shows... ! Sorry and thanks!

I sew with a tiny stitch length so there is no need to backstitch. I just keep going...

I never backstitch. I don't seem to have issues, maybe because when I finish a top I sandwich it almost immediatelly.

I backstitch out of habit and I don't trust my stitches to stay together at the ends

I do, but ... at the beginning, I don't forward and then back ... I sew back 1 stitch and then forward; at the end, I do the opposite. With only 1 extra stitch on either end of the seam, I don't have a thread bulk problem. It only takes a millisecond to do and saves me time in the long run. Even though I use a small stitch, I still have some seam ends to come apart if I do not backstitch and it's very annoying to have to re-sew part of a seam when I'm putting a quilt together.

I back stitch most of the time, it is a habit from making other things for years. I do starch my finished blocks and stay stitch around each when I am done with them. I also stay stitch around outside of quilt top.
