what is a leader & ender
You can read all about leaders and enders here. I use them but not the way she does, but someday I plan to cut all of my small scraps into squares and make something with mine.
Thanks for the info, new about that method but did not know it was called that. Learn something new here everyday.

Only when that seam is not going to be crossed with another row of stitching.

    Exactly what I do too.

Same here. Plus, backstitching adds bulk, takes time, and since every seam will be enclosed in another seam, border or binding, I rarely do it. My rare occasion is when I am doing set-in seams or mitered corners. Then, I start about one stitch from the starting point, backstitch into the correct position, then stitch out from there.

In sewing I was always taught you back stitch or tie threads on back side. :( My sister in law who owns a shop said no you do not have to. Well, when squaring up I find here and there thread was coming lose so I do back stitch.

Not when doing blocks, but ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS when putting on the borders...any seam that isn't going to be sewn over needs to be "locked" or when I put it on my LA it opens up and then I have a disaster!

VERY good to know.... thanks for mentioning it. I always appreciate it when someone clues me in on how to be considerate of my friends. I want my LA'er to be my friend (okay, well, she's my SIL!!!) but you get it.... lol.
