My guild has about 30 members. We meed on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.
Our types of meeting vary. We have business meetings where we discuss things like the calendar for the year, who we will do a pro bono quilt for this year, area events, holiday parties.
We have work meetings (and sometimes have extra Saturdays for this) where we do quilts for babies in a hospital etc.
We also have people come to do trunk shows and demos.
Our group also puts on a quilt show in May each year.
The ladies are very friendly and help each other and encourage even the newest members.
We have talents from expert to beginner.

I belong to two guilds and although both run similar programs, they each have their own unique flavour. Both guilds have a monthly evening meeting that has a business portion, Show and Tell by members and a guest speaker or hands on Program. There are also lots of individual small projects that are available if you wish to participate. Some of these include mystery tins (members exchange tins, make a block, switch at each meeting), block of the month, PIGS (member challenge to finish up old projects) and great lending libraries of quilting books and magazines. During the month, there are opportunities to participate in making Community Quilts for donation, member led skills sessions (eg. binding or borders)and a weekly Stitch and Share session. All members are welcome to attend any or all of these activities and although there are regulars, I haven't found either group too "cliquey". The biggest difference is that my larger guild (135) is able to have more expensive speakers than my (70) member guild. Both guilds provide lots of quilting opportunities and it is up to the individual as to how many things you try. Can you tell by all of this that I love my guilds!

I am thinking about joining one. It is large with 430 members but only about 65 are regulars. The think that keeps me from joining is the fear of them being clique-ish. I hated high school and even though that was over 40 years ago, I just don't want to revert back with the clique-ish.

The ladies at the quilt shop I often go to have been trying to get me to join theres. They are such sweet ladies, and I think it would be fun, but it would be a LONG drive at night on country roads. Summer wouldnt be bad, but I dont like driving much if roads are icey.
And believe it or not, I am a bit shy around groups, I know chatty here, but noy around a group, lol!
I told them maybe, I'd like to try it! BF would probaly drive me if I asked him, lol!

I belong to two quilt guilds. One is the statewide Arkansas Quilters Guild, of which I chair the Sponsor and Publicity positions. We have about 70-75 members attend our monthly meetings, which have a business meeting at the beginning, followed by show and tell, and then the program speaker for the evening. They're such a great bunch of folks to be around, I just love going to meetings and being around them. They have two retreats each year, and I volunteered to be the co-chair (along with my wife) of next's years retreats. Going to be fun!

I also belong to the Hot Springs Area Quilt Guild, which is in the next county over. They usually have about 40-45 members at each meeting, I believe. My wife and I just joined them back in August. They're a great bunch, too, lots of fun.

But the county guild in the county that I live in won't let me join their guild because I am a man. :( Oh, well, their loss...they don't know what they're missing out on. :D

I'm the VP for my quilt guild. There are about 229 members (or at least that is what we were at last count. We meet the first Monday of the month and have trunk shows, fat quarter draws, and show and tell. We have classes throughout the months as well be various teachers and once a month we have a "stash busters" which is just a sewing day that anyone can go to. I know that many guilds are "clique-ish" but the best way to help that is to volunteer, go to classes, and go to the sewing days. The more people that you meet there the more fun you will have and the more you will learn from the other members.

Ask the ladies if they meet in the summer before you join. My guild does not meet July and August and part of June.

I think that is horrible that they would discriminate like that. Wonder why they feel that way. As you say, their loss!

I can't believe that! In my opinion, a quilter is a quilter, regardless of gender.

Ask them if they would let Ricky Tims join ..... when they say yes, tell them that he can't join right now but sent you to take his place!
