Now that's a good one!!! Take his GOOD shirts (or HER good dresses) and instead of packing them or throwing them out the door, cut off all the buttons and cut it up into squares
Why not take a nice big square out of the back of each of his shirts. hee hee. THEN help pack 'em for his new life. (bet you can tell I don't have soft kind feelings for my ex.)

How about an off-set/shifted wedding ring?

I had a divorce shower, for me it was a happy occasion and I would have totally loved a divorce quilt. I think it really depends on how the person is handling it weather you could inject some humour in it or it they need to be embraced. The jagged edged wedding ring done in a twin size would be sooooo funny.

I don't know of a divorce quilt either but from my past experience, just get some cheerleading fabric, what more can I say lol...

You could do a wedding ring pattern with 1 or more missing pieces in each of the rings?
i would use the rings over a broken heart in back ground

Okay I have read all of these and there are some very strange quilts out there. WOW.

You could always BLOW his picture up, make a wall hanging and hand her darts.
