I hope you guys don't get tired of my stories but at my age I have a lot. My mom told me when she got married she wanted all new things. So she gave the quilts her grandmother gave her to a cousin. She told me that she always regreted doing it because of the memories they held. My daughter too seems a little cool to the idea of a quilt but I'm going to make her one anyway because someday when I'm not around anymore she'll have a place to hide her tears.Time takes care of these things.

I definitely can understand. Can't figure out if my daughter is mean spirited concerning my quilting or just plain jealous! I recently was at a show with daughter as escort. I was handing out business cards and talking shop. Daughter came up to a group of people including and in a loud, rude voice, she said, "Mom, what are you doing passing out cards. Nobody wants to buy your junk!" I wanted to disappear... Out of nowhere this sweet little lady walked over to her and looking daughter straight in the eye said, "Your mother put in a lot of work on this 'junk'. My advice to you is to stop and think about how you just made her feel. While you are thinking about that, why don't you check out what the word RESPECT means and try to find some." I nearly fainted on the spot!

It is so discouraging! I was wondering if anyone on the board has this?

Neither my son nor my daughter care anything about quilts. My daughter did get an Asian style wall hanging which she seems to like but she doesn't like the way quilts look on beds--too "homespun" for her. As to my son, he once told me that I could make a quilt for him and his wife if I would do it in a contemporary style, using only solids. I'd just rather not.
My grandson loves my quilts. He will reap the bounty. I've got one in progress for him right now.

oh, yes! I was in the process of making my brother a special quilt when I was at the house I saw one of his dogs! (dirtbag outdoor dogs!) sleeping on one my mom made! That was the end of that idea! I still have the quilt here on a bed. Before I die I have to give everything away I make to stranger if necessary to make sure they go where they will be lovingly used.
I know quilts should hold up under use, but floor rags for dogs can be found at the $ store. sharet

My husband doesn't like quilts...when he was growing up, everything was "old", and quilts were made from scraps and were very utilitarian. He cannot get past that, so all of my quilts are given away (other family members, friends, charities). I still enjoy quilting, and he encourages my hobby, so the ones I keep are hung in my sewing room (but no where else in the house, sadly). We've been married 46 years, and he is a wonderful husband, so we compromise on this issue.

I am very fortunate, All of my family loves my quilts, and my Mom as even helped me buy fabric for my nieces and nephews so I could get more done :-) I borrowed my 3 year old Grand sons quilt for a couple of week to do a trunk show and he was so happy to have it back he grabbed it and ran and hid it so I wouldn't take it again (yes they drag them all over the house) but they use them in bed and on the couch and love them if they wear them out Ill just make them another one they are to be used and loved!

my family sees crafty things as "cheap" and it is only lately when my youngest daughter made a baby quilt (and told the dinner table siblings how MUCH work it is) that they are a bit more understanding. The oldest kids have well paying jobs and don't understand paying for fabric, MAKING time to sew, etc when you can buy things. yep it's gonna take some time. . .
