My sentiments exactly.

If the employees ignore me the whole time I'm there, or are too buy yakking with each other or on their phone, I don't have any problem walking out empty handed, even if there was something I did want. But if the employees are attentive and talk to me I would feel guilty leaving with nothing. I will at least pick up a few FQs, just to support their business and help them keep the doors open.

I usually will buy a charm pack of Fat quarter so I don't feel guilty. Actually, that's a lie. I just use it as an excuse cuz I have a hard time resisting buying just a little something!

I'm trying to envision a quilt store that didn't have a single piece of fabric that I want to take home with me. Nope, can't do it. So I guess I don't qualify to answer the question. LOL

There are 2 shops in town but I only like 1. When I go there it is usually because I need something or want to see if they have something before ordering online. I don't always make a purchase but sometimes I will buy fabric to make a pillowcase. Not so much guilty as I just want to buy something & a pillowcase could sell at a craft show or be donated at Christmas.

No, some stores just don't have any fabric that I like.

I like to visit LQS when I travel. I enjoy talking with the owner/sales person about the shop, its personality (every store has one and is unique) and its outreach into the community. Sometimes I purchase something and other times not. I am not compelled or guilty. If I had to abandon my budget I would simply not be able to justify going in. I do collect the business cards and keep them. I think wise shop owners stock things that can be traveler's keepsakes. I was recently in Moab, Utah. The store, Its Sew Moab, had stained glass patterns for the attractions in Arches National Park. Nice keepsake that will take only a short amount of time to make. It could be purchased as pattern or a kit. Of course, I bought one. But to buy stuff that I can buy at home? Probably not.
