I have no problem with any of my three Bernina's sewing with Gutermann, as long as I am piecing. When it comes to machine quilting or free motion quilting, I use The Bottom Line products. I have tried Coats-Clark and, while it leaves a great quilting track, it is quite messy to use. I have to vacuum the lint from spool area daily.
All my cotton ones say made in Greece and the polyester made in Germany. Don't believe I just spent nearly an hour checking them all, how on earth does one get any quilting in, glued to the laptop? :)

How funny yellowsnow55. Yes, I too am spending way too much time here on the Board when Christmas presents are ready to be quilted and my charity fabrics waiting for cutting are stacked so high. But you may be on to something here. Cotton in Greece and polyester in Germany.

What I think is ... that we're all a great bunch of detectives. Give us enough time and we could solve the mysteries of the great pyramids or Stone Henge. Nevermind the Loch Ness monster or Jack the Ripper. Those would be a piece of cake.
Scotland Yard needs us!

I question this...guttermann thread is one of the better threads...What brand of thread does the LQS sell???I bet it is Mettler or one of the pricey ones...

It seems the Gutterman is springy and thick. I'lll take Aurafill or Metzler anytime over Gutterman. Ill even take cheap Walmart Coats and Clark over Gutterman. That is what is on most of my machines.

I am fast becomming a thread junkie! I use different threads for different projects. Auditioning a thread on a sample piece saves a lot of frustration. Note: If you can find "lingerie" thread, YLI, it is wonderful in the bobbin for Sulky Sliver. It has a little give and helps keep metalics from breaking. Am fond of Mettler silk finish.

OK, here's the latest bulletin from my Joann's! I went over there today to get my scissors sharpened, and while I was cooling my heels waiting, I checked out the threads with my Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass, while no one was looking of course. I found that the Coats & Clarks are all labeled "Made in Mexico!!" That's news to me. And half of the Gutermann's was labeled Germany, while the other half was labeled GREECE!!!
THAT, also, is new. I asked an employee at Joann's what she knew about it and she looked at me as if I was crazy, which I'm beginning to think I am. She said she knew nothing at all about it and what difference did it make anyhow. At which point I slunk out of the store. So, that's it from this part of the country. 8-)
