You can also buy a silicone potholder and stitch it onto the cover where you rest your iron. I have one and love it. If I lay my iron down for a moment, it rests on here and no worry about cover burning. Come to think of it, I need to make a new cover. Next time you make a new cover, remove the silicone potholder and stitch onto the new cover.

I have made my own for years now, I use a thermal backed cotton curtain lining in white or cream, cut the shape from the old one and run around the edge with sheeting elastic! It works so well, is so easy to make and is really hard wearing too! Very easily slipped off for washing, I never buy covers now and I make these for my family and friends as well.

Seems that it is a special, (rather pricey IMHO), material for different surfaces that keeps things from slipping. Originally for ironing board so quilt pieces wouldn't slip. Check it out here:

i did make one for my table top ironing board..i used the old cover as a pattern, like the others suggested..

So I could make a small pressing board in the same way?

I buy some sewing theme fabric and make my own. I actually had my hubby make me a big board for just a few dollars and have covered that twice already as I use it that much.

Check out Walmart. I saw an 18" wide ironing board there yesterday. They should have covers for them.
