Beautiful! I was out of town so didn't see the original in time to offer any suggestions, but I love your end result. Invisible thread is great, especially if you get a good brand that your machine likes

IF you intend to put this in a show for the competition, you must quilt it thoroughly, If its for you, anything goes. Given what I can see of the background material in question, I would use tight, "straight' lines following the lines/grain of the fabric. There will be direction changes but it will enhance that olive? material.

I'd go for straight lines radiating out from the 'light burst' to the dark areas, interrupting the line when you come to a wing, then restarting the line on the other side of the wing. Also, consider poly clear thread for the top.

I agree--I like it in the lighter color area and think it's not only because the color blends better (MonoPoly would do this well too) but also because the lines follow the same direction as the radiating lines.
